ITHACA, N.Y. – At the end of the first day of competition at the 2022 Liberty League Swimming & Diving Championships, the Ithaca College men's program currently sit in second place with 430 points. RIT are currently leading all teams with 449 points while RPI (303) rounds out the top-3 as action will resume on Thursday morning for preliminaries.
It was an incredible swim for first year
Matthew Johnston in the 500-yard freestyle as he was able to score a podium finish with a first-place swim and time of 4:37.64. That time shattered his preliminary time of 4:41.41, which was swam earlier in the day and was a previous season best. Johnston bested Robbie Perot who swam to a time of 4:40.55 for a second-place finish.
After winning multiple Liberty League Swimmer of the Week awards this season, sophomore
Jack Wadsworth matched the hype and officially became a Liberty League champion on Wednesday evening winning the 200-yard IM. He swam a 1:48.37 in the finals, which bested Brendan Kapp who touched the final wall at 1:51.57 for his second-place finish. Wadsworth's time not only broke the Liberty League Championships record, but it was an Ithaca College pool record as well as it also was an NCAA B-cut time.
The fireworks continued with impressive times being put up in the 50-yard freestyle finals.
James Collishaw upset reigning 2020 champion and teammate
Stanley Zaneski by winning the event in a photo finish. Collishaw touched the final wall in 20.52 and Zaneski touched in 20.55, as both times were NCAA B-cut times.
On the 3-meter board,
Zack Kalinowski totaled a season-best finals score of 333.40 for a fifth-place finish. Gellert Kish from RIT won the event totaling a score of 529.20.
In the final race of the evening, the Ithaca College relay team showed its speed in the 200-yard medley and achieved an NCAA B-cut mark in 1:30.81, but it was only good for a second-place finish.

James Collishaw teamed up to achieve the feat for IC as the time of 1:30.81 also marked a new program record. The Bombers were narrowly edged out by the foursome from RIT who raced to a finals time of 1:30.37.
Day two of competition continues tomorrow with swimming preliminaries at 10 a.m., diving preliminaries at 1 p.m. and finals for both at 6 p.m. The day will begin with the 200 freestyle relay, followed by the 400 IM, 100 butterfly, 200 freestyle and 400 medley relay. On the boards will be the women's 1-meter dive.
