Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

No. 20/22 Women’s Basketball Improve to 2-0 with Win over Montclair State

MONTCLAIR, N.Y. – The Ithaca College women's basketball team were running on all cylinders on Friday evening as the Bombers held Montclair State University to just 35.8% from the field as they rolled to a 72-48 victory over the Red Hawks. Ithaca improves to 2-0 with the win as they were extremely balanced as four finished in double figures with Cara Volpe leading the way with 11 points and seven rebounds.

Camryn Coffey (10), Emily Dorn (10) and Zoraida Icabalceta (10) also finished with double-digit scoring totals. The Bombers shot 41.8% from the field as it was often their stingy defense that led to easy opportunities in transition. The Bombers scored the opening basket of the game with Emily Dorn converting on a layup after a Coffey steal. Ithaca stretched its lead up to seven points after a pair of made free throws from Hannah Polce with a 1:30 left in the quarter.

The Bombers took a 15-9 lead into the second, but a quick 4-0 run saw the Red Hawks trailing by two after an Oliva Vero layup. However, Ithaca responded with a 9-0 scoring run that was capped off by an Annabella Yorio layup that put them up 26-16. IC carried a 12-point lead (33-21) into the halftime break.

It was another scoring spurt this-time outscoring Montclair State 9-0 again, that saw Ithaca build its lead to 19 points with 5:07 left in the third quarter after an Emily Dorn fast break layup. The lead stretched to 23 points at 54-31 by the end of the quarter. The teams traded baskets during the final 10 minutes of play, but Ithaca still outscored the home team 18-17 during the period.

Up next, Ithaca College will remain on the road as they return to action on Tuesday, November 15 at SUNY Geneseo. Game time is slated for 5:30 p.m.
