GENESEO, N.Y. – The Ithaca College women's basketball team defeated SUNY Geneseo 57–50 on Tuesday night.
Natalie Smith led all scorers with 17 points, leading the Bombers to their third consecutive win to begin the season.
The Knights got the scoring started, but the Bombers took an early lead off a 10-point run sparked by a three-pointer by
Natalie Smith. Six points from
Camryn Coffey and four points from
Lindsey Albertelli helped the Bombers get out to a 15–8 lead as the first quarter came to an end.
The Bombers slowed down offensively with a six-minute scoring drought in the second quarter and an 8-0 run from the Knights got them back within three points. A step back jumper from Smith and a basket from
Brady Lynch in the final minute gave the Bombers its seven-point lead back heading into halftime.
The Bombers came out strong in the third quarter with two baskets from
Emily Dorn to start the half. The Bombers continued to control the game, extending their lead to 37–27 by the end of the third quarter.
The Bombers got a big 45–29 lead, but the Knights came storming back with five three-pointers to bring the game within three points. A basket by
Cara Volpe gave the Bombers a five-point lead, but to consecutive baskets from the Knights made it one-point game.
Smith came up big for the Bombers in the final minute to ice the game for the Bombers. Ahead 51–50, Smith drove past her defender with a left-handed finish to put the Bombers back up by three. The Bombers had a great defensive possession and Smith was put on the free throw line. Smith and Dorn each drained a pair of free throws in the final seconds to give the Bombers a 57–50 victory.
The Bombers held the Knights to 35.8% shooting from the field in a strong defensive effort. Coffey got into double figures with 10 points on the day. Dorn grabbed eight rebounds for the Bombers and shot 4/4 from the free throw line. Albertelli added eight points on 80% shooting from the field.
The Bombers look to continue their undefeated start to the season as they travel to Catholic University on Saturday, Nov. 19 for a 4 p.m. tipoff.
