POTSDAM, N.Y. – The Ithaca College women's basketball team put together an outstanding first half performance together on Saturday to win their fifth-straight game, this time a 67-44 victory over Clarkson University. The Bombers improved to 10-3 overall and 6-1 within the Liberty League, as they sit second within the conference with 12 games remaining.
Inside the Box Score
- Grace Cannon led all scorers with 22 points as the fifth-year guard finished 9-of-13 from the field. Melissa Buxton chipped in 10 points and five boards.
- The Bombers shot 50% (29-of-58) from the field and knocked down 5-of-16 shots from downtown.
- Clarkson University only had one student-athlete finish in double figures with Cassidy Dumont finishing with 11 points.
Notes
- Grace Cannon became the 15th player in the program's 56-year history to reach 1000 points. She achieved the feat after a pair of first quarter jumpers.
How it Happened
- Cannon powered the offensive attack early in the contest with her scoring six points to put the Bombers up 8-6 after a jumper. The final basket of the quarter was scored at the 1:56 mark when Natalie Smith drove it into the paint for a layup that put Ithaca up 14-7.
- The Bombers opened up a 15 point lead with Natalie Smith converting on another layup (22-7). A layup with just over two minutes remaining in the second quarter was converted by Grace Cannon who put her team up 32-10. After an Emily Dorn layup to close the half, IC went into halftime with a 34-12 advantage.
- The Golden Knights cut into the Ithaca lead to start the third quarter but a Grace Cannon and-one put the Bombers up 43-21 with 4:47 left in the period. IC took a 19 point lead into the fourth quarter, up 49-30.
- Ithaca never allowed a chance for a comeback in the final period. Hannah Polce knocked down a 3-pointer putting her team up 65-40. The Bombers played sound down the stretch to pick up the win.
Ithaca is slated to travel to Skidmore College on Friday, Jan. 21 for another Liberty League contest. Game time is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
