SCRANTON, Pa. – The Ithaca College volleyball team (1-4) were victorious in the first two sets in the John Long Center, but the University of Scranton rallied on Wednesday to win the next three in a row to take the match.
Inside the Box Score
- The Bombers took the first set 25-23, outhit the home team in the second team for a 26-24 win, fell 14-25 in the third set, dropped the fourth set 17-25 and were defeated 12-15 in the final set.
- Ithaca played its best in the first two sets with a combined 27 kills during the stretch compared to just seven hitting errors.
- Jamie Koopman and Camryn O'Leary both had 10 kills each, while Paris Buckner was a force to be reckoned with managing season-highs in kills (8), blocks (5) and digs (4).
- Eryn Boken was the top-hitter of the match for the Royals finishing with 15 kills to go along with four blocks.
- This was only the third time the schools met all-time and it was the first time the Royals were able to score a win in the matchup. The last two have been five set matches and University of Scranton with the win improved to 5-0 to begin the 2021 season.
How it Happened
- With the score tied at 18 points apiece, the Bombers went down two points before scoring six-straight to build a 24-20 advantage after a Samantha Klemm kill.
- IC rallied from an early 6-0 deficit and took its first lead of the second set at 18-17 when the Royals had a service error. The schools would go on trading points and down, 24-22 the Bombers scored four-straight to gain momentum and take the second set 26-24 after a Paris Buckner kill.
- The University of Scranton held a lead through most of the third set and was able to build a comfortable 22-9 advantage with a service ace from Erin Keaveney.
- IC built several leads in the fourth frame, but none larger than two points. Neither team had more than nine kills as Scranton closed scoring the final six-straight points.
- After taking an early lead in the decisive fifth set, a rally from the home team would create breathing room for the University of Scranton, who secured their sweep with a 15-12 win.
Up next, Ithaca College will compete in the Brockport Invitational on Friday and Saturday taking on the Golden Eagles, the University of Rochester and Nazareth College
