Volleyball Wins in Straight Sets Over Nazareth

BROCKPORT, N.Y. – The Ithaca College volleyball team returned to its winning ways on Friday evening defeating Nazareth College in three sets by scores of 25-17, 25-14 and 25-8. The 3-0 decision to the Bombers improved their record to 2-4 overall on the first day of the Brockport Invitational.

Inside the Box Score
  • Tonight marked the first victory of the seaons that IC was able to win in straight sets during the 2021 season.
  • Despite having fewer hits in the first set, the Bombers rallied from an early deficit to connect on 23% of theirs attempts for nine kills.
  • Jamie Koopman came up with a match-high 11 kills and Camryn O'Leary was right behind her totaling 10 on Friday's match.
  • The dynamic duo of Aleka Darko and Paris Buckner each recorded five blocks each with the IC libero Jordyn Lyn Hayashi totaling a match-high 19 digs.
  • The Bombers totaled 66 points compared to the Golden Flyers 31 with the first set being the most competitive overallĀ of the match.
How it Happened
  • The Bombers built a 9-5 lead during the first set and didn't let off the gas pedal against Nazareth as they were able to rally a bit but IC shut them down for the 25-17 victory.
  • Ithaca College began the second set on a 8-3 run, and continued the hot streak building a 23-13 advantage after a Camryn O'Leary kill and would go on to take the set. An Aleka Darko kill to end it was assisted by Laura Severance.
  • IC once again built an early advantage at 15-5 with an outstanding service ace by Peyton Miller concluding the scoring run. The Bombers sucked the momentum out of the opponents scoring 10 out of the final 13 points.
Ithaca College will face the University of Rochester at 11 a.m. and the College of Brockport at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, which is the second day of the tournament.
