Field Hockey Earns Road Win at Misericordia, 3-1

DALLAS, Pa. – The Ithaca College field hockey team improved to 2-1 on the season as the Bombers came away with a 3-1 non-conference win at Misericordia University on Wednesday evening, September 8. In what was originally scheduled as a 7 p.m. start, the contest was moved up to 5:30 p.m. to beat impending inclement weather. IC and Misericordia managed to complete three quarters and played three minutes into the fourth before Mother Nature rolled through the area and forced a two-hour delay.

The Bombers took a 1-0 lead late in the first quarter as Grace Ziehnert scored off a corner with 3:40 remaining. It was Ziehnert's first goal of the season as Natalie Descalso assisted on the tally – her second assist of the year.

Approximately six minutes later, Jacqueline Mirabile staked IC to a 2-0 edge off another corner, which resulted in the eventual game-winning goal with 12:36 left in the first half.

Out of intermission, IC and Misericordia battled for 14 minutes in the third period before either team could find the back of the net. Morgan Mullen increased IC's advantage to 3-0 at the 1:08 mark on a highly contested play in front of the cage. Mullen, who scored 14 goals for the Bombers in 2019, picked up her first tally of the season this evening.

Misericordia got on the board with 12:03 to go in regulation right before the contest was delayed.

Macy Brandwein earned another win in goal for the Bombers as she made three saves on the night.

Ithaca outshot Misericordia, 9-5, and held an 8-2 edge in corners.

The Bombers head to Hartwick College on Friday, September 10 for another non-conference matchup.
