Field Hockey Defeats Hartwick Behind Second-Straight 3-1 Outcome

ONEONTA, N.Y. – The Ithaca College field hockey team posted its second consecutive 3-1 victory this week, as the Bombers took down host Hartwick College at Wright Stadium on Friday afternoon, September 10. Ithaca lifts its record to 3-1 on the season ahead of its upcoming three-game home stretch. Hartwick falls to 1-2.

Despite being outshot, 19-10, in the contest, the Bombers utilized eight first half shots to put home three goals, which proved to be too much for Hartwick to overcome. The Hawks fired off 14 shots over the opening 30 minutes, but only four were on target, as Macy Brandwein stopped all four shots en route to her third win of the year. The Hawks also dominated in corners, 16-6.

Exactly nine minutes into the contest, Brianna Lennon staked IC to a 1-0 lead as she distributed a loose ball into the back of the net. Lennon attempted a shot 10 seconds prior, which was saved, and she finished up the rebound.

In the second quarter, Jacqueline Mirabile started off a corner attempt and made her way to the front of the cage and tallied IC's second goal at the 17:51 mark. After the initial feed, Madeline Goodman ripped a shot that was saved. Mirabile collected the loose ball and fired off another shot, which was denied, but found success off that rebound.

Roughly seven minutes later, Morgan Mullen staked the Bombers to a 3-0 advantage off an assist from Elizabeth Pillow. Pillow took the ball along the end line and found Mullen on the doorstep for the third goal of the half, and final goal of the contest for IC.

Over the final four minutes of the first half, Hartwick took four shots but three were blocked by the Bomber defense and the fourth was sent wide to keep the game at 3-0.

Hartwick managed to get on the board with less than five minutes remaining in the contest. The Hawks were unable to sustain possession from there as IC came away with the win.

Ithaca will host Cortland at 7 p.m. on September 15 and Geneseo on the 18th at 1 p.m. Brockport comes to town on the 22nd for a 5 p.m. contest.
