ITHACA, N.Y. – The Ithaca College women's volleyball team cutdown on its mental miscues from previous matches this season and gave the No. 6 ranked team in the nation quite a few scares on Saturday, but Johns Hopkins won it's 38
th straight match, which dates back to the 2019 season where it won the national championship.
Inside the Box Score
- Ithaca College held leads in each of the sets, but the reigning Division III National Champions had a response each time for the Bombers as they dug in and won each set (19-25, 23-25 and 25-27).
- Jennifer Pitts collected a season-best eight kills for the Bombers and tallied three blocks against Johns Hopkins. Paris Buckner was also a force up the middle for IC as she notched four blocks of her own.
- Jordyn Lyn Hayashi was all over the court defensively as she racked up 23 digs and had a service ace within the second set.
How it Happened
- The Bombers fought back from a four point deficit in the first set to tie it up at nine points apiece, but coming out of a Johns Hopkins timeout the team responded with six unanswered points to build a 15-9 lead. IC would go on a run of its own that was capped off by a Samantha Klemm kill to bring the game to 16-13. Hopkins buckled down at the service line and won the first set.
- Ithaca College came out in the second set on absolute fire and established a 7-2 lead. A highlight within that run was a Jennifer Pitts kill that was assisted by Peyton Miller. The Bombers continued to the lead the set until the visitors went up 17-15, but the lead was quickly regained on a Miller kill where she surprised the front line with a smartly placed over ball on her set attempt. The Blue Jays were down 23-22 but scored the final three-straight points to take the second set.
- IC nearly forced Johns Hopkins into a fourth set, but the veteran squad once again held its ground battling off a pair of Ithaca set points. Natalie Aston played the role of heartbreaker for the Bomber faithful as it was game-winning swing and kill that gave her team the 3-0 win on Saturday.
Ithaca College will look to return to its winning ways playing in its first road game of the season on Wednesday, September 8 when the squad travels to the University of Scranton. Game time is slated for 7 p.m.
