PITTSFORD, N.Y. – The Ithaca College field hockey team traveled to St. John Fisher College on Saturday and fell, 1-0, to the Cardinals at Growney Stadium. With the loss, Ithaca is now 1-1 on the season after the first week of competition.
The Bombers notched one shot in the first quarter, while the Cardinals produced four – including two on cage that were saved by
Macy Brandwein. In the second stanza, IC put its first shot on goal, which came from
Morgan Mullen, but that was saved. Fisher also recorded a shot that was blocked, and the former conference foes went into halftime scoreless.
As the second half got underway, Ithaca was awarded a corner in the opening two minutes, but Fisher managed to draw one shortly and maintained control of the third quarter. At the 38:11 mark, the Cardinals put home the lone goal of the contest as Molly Fisher scored off a tipped shot from Bre Socker.
IC took over in the final few minutes of the third with three shots and a corner but were unable to get on the board.
In the fourth period, IC ripped off three shots, but none were on target. IC's final opportunity came on a corner at 58:51, but the Bombers could not send off a shot.
Brandwein made two saves in the loss, as Fisher outshot Ithaca, 10-8. The Cardinals also earned eight corners to four from IC.
IC heads to Misericordia on September 8 for a 7 p.m. non-conference contest in Dallas, Pa.
