ITHACA, N.Y. – After being fouled just feet in front of the opposing 18-yard box, Ithaca College's
Christopher Ogden rose to the occasion and curled his free kick into the bottom right corner of the cage. The scoring effort proved to be the game-winner for the Bombers as they held on for the 1-0 victory over Hobart College and the goal was the first for Ogden at Ithaca College. The Bombers have won their opening two games of Liberty League conference play to improve to 4-4-3 overall.
Hobart College began the game as the more dangerous of the two teams as the Statesman had three corner kick opportunities and a shot on frame at the 13:35 mark that forced a
Lee Folger save. Another diving save from Folger was made in the 20
th minute.
The Bombers sprung on the counter attack and a sliding challenge from Jacob Siegel brought out a yellow card and gave the home team its first real chance at a goal scoring opportunity.
Christopher Ogden curled the ball past the defensive wall and celebrated the opening goal of the match at the 28:55 mark. IC went into halftime with the 1-0 advantage.
IC turned on the pressure looking to add an insurance effort in the second half as they notched six attempts in the final 45 minutes of play. It took a diving stop from reigning Liberty League Defensive Performer of the Week, Guillermo Castaneda Chang against a
Jonathan Kyriakidis strike to keep the match at 1-0. The Statesman attempted a few dangerous shot attempts, but
Lee Folger was there to make a save at each attempt.
Senior goalkeeper
Lee Folger made six saves for his second-straight shutout for the Bombers. The Statesman outshot IC by a 17-8 margin and had two more corner kick opportunities. The Ithaca College backline had an excellent final 15 minutes of play communicating and frustrating the opposing attackers down the stretch to hold on for the victory.
Ithaca College who are in the midst of a homestand will return to action at Carp Wood Field on Saturday, October 2 when they host St. Lawrence University. Game time is slated for 3 p.m.
