ITHACA, N.Y.- It was a game of great ball movement and offensive dominance for the Ithaca College women's soccer team on a beautiful Sunday afternoon as the Bombers defeated the Mount Saint Mary Knights 4-0. This victory helped keep their 2021 season campaign flawless as they maintain a record of four wins, no losses, and no ties.
IC's strong offensive abilities were shown right off the opening kick as they dominated in the first 20 minutes, leading to a dangerous opportunity for
Delaney Rutan in the 23
rd minute. The Bombers were rewarded for their constant possession with a goal off the foot of
Sophia Mahoney in the 38
th minute.
Domination continued into the second half with the Knights' defenders parked in their defensive third. Knights goalkeeper, Caroline Brucato, had several key saves. She recorded a total of 13 saves for the afternoon.
The Bombers topped it all off with three goals in a span of 11 minutes.
Megan O'Reilly recorded her first goal of the season, followed by a brace from
Bailey Fisher, which included a header that was assisted on a long flip throw from
Brenna Lorenzen.
Bombers head coach,
Mindy Quigg, commented about her teams overall performance after Sunday's latest victory.
"In the back, our communication was really good," Quigg said. "
Claire Reader,
Kate Kohler and
Jessica Bredin led really well...I thought they set the stage for success back there. Once our midfield started pressing a bit higher and harder, I thought that's what really put Mount Saint Mary under the gun a little."
Coach Quigg then commented on
Megan O'Reilly's game performance.
"Meg is our midfield line and is an incredible leader," Quigg said. "She's an incredible person. Her work rate is exceptional. She's vocal. I just can't ask for too much more from her."
The Bombers ended up outshooting the Knights 39-1 as
Claire Reader recorded her third straight clean sheet. Ithaca will look to stay perfect as they take on Nazareth College at 12 p.m. on Saturday, September 18 on Carp Wood Field.
