SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – Senior
Beth Fleming threw Ithaca's 17th no-hitter in school history on Saturday as the IC softball program split with Skidmore in a Liberty League doubleheader. Ithaca won the first contest, 9-0 in five innings, while Skidmore took game two, 2-1, in eight innings.
GAME ONE: Ithaca 9, Skidmore 0 (5 innings)
Fleming struck out five batters and walked three during the first no-hitter in program history since 2017.
IC jumped out to a 3-0 lead after the first innings and added six more in the second to take a commanding 9-0 advantage after two frames.
In the first,
Haley Gaffney drove in the initial run on a fielder's choice and then
Kailey Collins tripled to right for the second run of the contest.
Haley White followed with a single to left for the final run.
IC tacked on six more in the second inning behind three errors by Skidmore and a three-run homerun by White.
GAME TWO: Skidmore 2, Ithaca 1 (8 innings)
The nightcap was a pitchers' duel between
Riley Piromalli and Hannah Davis. Neither hurler allowed a run until the bottom of the sixth, but IC tied things up in the seventh to force extras.
In the seventh, White drove home
Kaitlin Maniscalco with a ground out, but Skidmore walked-off in the eighth on a sacrifice fly.
IC managed just two hits in the loss, while Skidmore produced nine hits.
Piromalli struck out six batters and walked five over 5.0 innings in a no-decision. Fleming took the loss in 2.2 innings of relief.
Ithaca plays Skidmore tomorrow at 1 p.m. in a doubleheader at Kostrinsky Field.
