Rough Second Quarter Dooms Men's Lacrosse in Liberty League Semifinal

Canton, N.Y. - The Ithaca College Men's Lacrosse team was outscored 7-1 in a decisive second quarter as No. 12 St. Lawrence maintained a comfortable lead in the second half to win the Liberty League Semifinal 15-8. The Bombers fall to 6-4 on the season with the loss.

How it Happened: St. Lawrence struck first, but Charlie Niebuhr and Connor Brumfield scored back-to-back goals to give Ithaca an early 2-1 lead with 6:23 to go in the opening period. The Saints would tie things up at 2, but John Sramac gave the Bombers the lead back with 2:42 to go. St. Lawrence tied the game with 59 seconds left in the period, and that is where things started to fall apart for the half. The Saints scored the first seven goals of the second quarter to build a 10-3 lead before Kyle Savery scored with 1:35 left in the half to cut St. Lawrence's halftime lead to 10-4.

The teams traded goals in the third quarter and it looked like the Bombers would take momentum into the fourth quarter on a John Sramac goal with 15 seconds left, but St. Lawrence scored as time expired in the quarter to restore a seven goal lead. The Bombers had a sliver of hope in the fourth quarter as Savery and Sramac opened the scoring with back-to-back goals to cut the lead to five, but St. Lawrence had the answer as they scored the last two goals of the game to win 15-8.

Game Leaders: Jake Erickson and Sramac led the Bombers offense with three points apiece. Erickson had a team-high three assists while Sramac had a team-high three goals. Five other Bombers registered at least one point.

Jake Hall-Goldman led the Ithaca defense with two caused turnovers and four ground balls on the day. Connor Thornton made 13 saves on the day for Ithaca.

Up Next: The Bombers will await the NCAA Tournament selection show to see if their season will continue. The show is scheduled for May 9 at 9:00 P.M. EST.
