ITHACA, N.Y. – The Ithaca College softball team ran its winning streak to seven straight games at Kostrinsky Field on Sunday afternoon against St. Lawrence with 10-2 and 5-1 victories as part of Senior Day in a Liberty League doubleheader. Ithaca is now 21-5 on the season and 17-3 in the Liberty League.
After the doubleheader, Ithaca honored its senior class on this year's team, as well as the seniors from last season who are still on campus pursuing their graduate degrees.
GAME ONE: Ithaca 10, St. Lawrence 2 (5 innings)
The Bombers struck in the bottom of the first inning with two runs on a single from
Haley Gaffney that brought in
Julia Loffredo and
Allison Dell'Orto.
Four more runs crossed the plate in the third inning to extend IC's lead to 6-0.
Gabby Laccona led off with a double and then scored after a stolen base and throwing error. After a Loffredo double, Gaffney tripled to right-center to make the score 4-0.
Kailey Collins followed with an infield single that brought home Gaffney and the final run scored on an RBI single off the bat of
Daniella Mulvey, bringing home Collins.
St. Lawrence got on the board with two runs in the top of the fourth, but the Bombers answered with three more in the bottom half to build a 9-2 lead. In that frame, Laccona doubled and stole third, and was followed by a triple from Dell'Orto. A hit by pitch to Loffedo ensued and then a stolen base and another throwing error allowed Dell'Orto to score. Gaffney also drove in a run with a groundout for the final run of the inning.
IC ended the game in the bottom of the fifth on an RBI triple from Mulvey, which brought home
Belle de Oliveira.
Beth Fleming ran her record to 9-4 on the season with 12 strikeouts over 5.0 innings. Fleming surrendered just two hits and one earned run in the outing.
GAME TWO: Ithaca 5, St. Lawrence 1
IC once again racked up the extra base hits in the nightcap with a triple and two homeruns.
Gaffney started things off with a two-run homer to right-center in the bottom of the first with Dell'Orto on base.
In the fourth,
Haley White stroked a solo shot to left to make the score 3-0. IC added two runs in the fifth on an RBI triple from Loffredo as Dell'Orto from second after a single and stolen base. Gaffney followed with a sacrifice fly for IC's final run of the game.
St. Lawrence scored its lone run in the top of the seventh on a double.
Riley Piromalli went the distance with six strikeouts to just one walk. Piromalli is now 12-1 on the season as she allowed one run on four hits.
Ithaca hosts Alfred for a non-conference doubleheader on Thursday, May 6.
