CANTON, N.Y. – The Ithaca College women's tennis team suffered an 8-1 Liberty League loss at the hands of host St. Lawrence University on Saturday in the North Country. Ithaca falls to 1-2 on the season and 0-2 in the Liberty League, while St. Lawrence improves to 2-1 overall and 2-1 in the league.
Sarah Sposito earned IC's lone victory of the afternoon with a straight-sets sweep of Ibadat Javed at sixth singles, 6-0, 6-0.
Althrough IC dropped all three doubles matches, each was contested throughout.
Zoe Davis and
Sara Steinberg lost, 8-6, at second doubles, as did
Caroline Herz and Sposito.
Rebecca Andrews and
Alexandra Dyszewski fell, 8-5, at first doubles.
Davis was a tough matchup for the Saints at third singles with a 7-6 (7-4), 5-7, 1-0 (10-3) loss. Herz also pushed her opponent with a 5-7, 6-4, 1-0 (10-8) setback.
Ithaca travels to Rochester next Wednesday, April 14 for a 3 p.m. match.
