ONEOTA, N.Y. – Trailing 48-47 entering the final minute of play, the Ithaca College women's basketball team showed their experience on Saturday evening and a
Megan Yawman 3-pointer with just seven seconds remaining gave the Bombers the 50-48 win over Hartwick College. The Bombers improved to 1-0 overall and handed the Hawks their first loss of the season as they dropped to 2-1 on the 2021-22 season.

- The Bombers had both Cara Volpe and Grace Cannon finish in double figures scoring 14 and 12 points apiece, respectively. Grace Cannon tallied a double-double while also collecting 10 rebounds during her 30 minutes on the court.
- Ithaca shot just 4-of-15 from distance, but no bigger shot on the evening was converted other than Megan Yawman's 3-pointer as she finished 2-of-4 from beyond the arc, while scoring nine points.
- The Bombers made the most of their size advantage holding a 24-14 advantage in points in the paint, while they also scored 16 second chance points.
- The Hawks were led in scoring by Maggie Kirby who finished with 14 points, while both Guiliana Pritchard and Molly Kirby scored 12 points each.
- It was a big fourth quarter that powered Ithaca College to the win as they were held to just four points in the third period but outscored their opponents 16-10 in the final 10 minutes of play.
How it Happened
- Ithaca rolled early as they were the beneficiaries of a 13-0 run to open the game that was capped off with a jumper by Cara Volpe with 5:56 left in the first quarter. A pair of made free throws from Lindsey Albertelli saw the Bomebrs up 15-4 with four minutes remaining, but Hartwick closed on a 9-2 run to cut the deficit to four points (17-13).
- A fast break layup that was converted by Grace Cannon that was assisted by Yawman saw the Bombers build a double-digit lead at 28-17 with 5:12 remaining in the half. Solid shooting from 3-point range saw the Hawks stay within striking distance as Ithaca carried a 30-26 lead into halftime.
- It was a cold shooting third quarter for the Bombers as they went 2-for-26 from the field and scored just four points within the quarter as Hartwick picked up their first lead of the game after a Molly Kirby shot from downtown (33-30). The Hawks went into the fourth quarter leading 38-34.
- After forcing a turnover and a Giuliana Pritchard layup, Hartwick had an eight-point lead at 42-34, but the Bombers continued to chip away at the deficit. With a Cara Volpe layup and Megan Yawman made free throw, IC was down by one at 48-47, which setup the Yawman heroics as the graduate student netted the game-winining 3-pointer with just seven seconds remaining.
The Bombers will host the University of Scranton at Ben Light Gymnasium on Friday, November 17. Game time is slated for 6 p.m.
