Annadale-On-Hudson, N.Y. – The Ithaca College women's soccer team scored two goals in the opening three minutes of the match and cruised to a dominant 5-0 win on Saturday afternoon. It was a truly special performance from graduate student
Alex Epifani as she finished the match netting a brace, assisting on another scoring effort all within 23 minutes on the pitch. The forward leads Ithaca College this season in scoring with 13 points on four goals and five assists. With the win, the Bombers who received top-25 votes in the United Soccer Coaches Poll earlier in the week improved to 9-2 overall and 3-1 within the Liberty League.
It was a quick start for the Bombers scoring four goals in the first 12 minutes of play that seized all momentum of the match. The first goal was scored with
Delaney Rutan pulling the strings and placing a nice through ball that gave
Alex Epifani a one-on-one effort against the goalkeeper where Epifani slotted the ball in the back of the net just 1:52 into the match. Just a 1:06 later, IC would strike again with
Alex Epifani and
Delaney Rutan switching roles on this scoring effort. The graduate forward assisted this goal as
Delaney Rutan made a nice run and was rewarded for her hustle with a scoring chance that she made the most of to put the Bombers up 2-0.
Ithaca College kept up their offensive pressure and would add to its lead in the 11
th minute when
Kelsey Espenhorst added her name to the scoresheet. She made another great attacking run for the Bombers and
Rosie Bostian found her in the box and Espenhorst finished for the 3-0 lead.
Alex Epifani capped off her brace with another quick strike, this one just a 1:30 after Espenhorst's scoring effort. Epifani made several great dribbles that gave her the room to rip her shot into the back of the net.
The Bombers carried the 4-0 advantage into the halftime break. The final insurance effort was scored in the 82
nd minute on another unassisted goal this one coming via
Bailey Fisher who netted her third goal of the 2021 season.
IC controlled possession for the majority of the match and outshot Bard College by a 24-7 margin, which included the Bombers placing 10 shots on the goal frame. Every goalkeeper on the Ithaca roster saw time on the pitch on Saturday with
Claire Reader earning the win with a save as well as
