ITHACA, N.Y. – For the second-straight day the Ithaca College women's volleyball team won a three-set Liberty League contest as the Bombers bested Union College on Saturday by scores of 25-12, 25-13 and 25-13. IC remain perfect in Liberty League play with a 4-0 mark and are 11-8 overall.
Inside the Box Score
- After a sluggish start, the Bombers hitters really began connecting on their swings and it showed with 43 kills on 101 total attempts. IC saw Jaelyn Hershberger tally a match-best 10 kills, Faith Sabatier added nine kills and 10 digs, while sophomore Jamie Koopman added eight.
- First year Peyton Miller racked up a new season-high in assists with 37 after she tallied 31 in the three-set victory over Skidmore College on Friday.
- It was a great afternoon at the service line for the Bombers racking up nine aces. Paris Buckner tallied three followed by Grace Isaksen and Peyton Miller who had two service aces apiece.
- Union College couldn't build any sort of momentum outside of the first set of the match on Saturday as they finished with 11 kills on a -.032 hitting percentage. The Dutchmen were paced by Jessica Siragusa who had five kills and four digs.
How it Happened
- It was just the start that Union College was looking for on the road with the visitors taking an early 5-0 lead within the first set that forced a Coach Dulfer timeout. After trailing 8-3, the Bombers responded and rattled off six of the next seven points, which included a huge Faith Sabatier kill in that run that tied it up at nine points apiece.
- Ithaca College continued to pick up momentum building a 19-11 lead with strong hits from Jamie Koopman and Faith Sabatier. Grace Isaksen was at the service line for a large portion of the first set keeping the opponents on their heels while also managing an ace. The Bombers went on to win the opening set 25-12 via an attacking error from the Dutchmen.
- Things started out evenly before IC went up 4-3 after another Faith Sabatier kill. The Bombers capitalized on a few Union College hitting errors to go up 13-5 with another big scoring run. Ithaca finished the set strong to build a 2-0 advantage with the 25-13 win.
- Alexandra Montgomery had a great swing and kill that was followed-up on another Grace Isaksen ace. IC strong together another consecutive run of points that was capped off by a Josie Hampton kill and a Julia Costa ace that forced a visitors timeout with the Bombers up 12-4. The Dutchmen responded well brining it to 7-19, but Ithaca College continued to pressure their opponents with back-to-back kills via Jamie Koopman and then Faith Sabatier that put an exclamation point on the match.
The Bombers will travel to Rochester, N.Y. in a highly anticipated matchup to take on RIT (16-2, 4-0 Liberty League) on Wednesday, October 13 with a 6 p.m. start time.
