TROY, N.Y. – Not only did
Jack Wadsworth set a pool record, but in the 100-yard backstroke the sophomore won the event breaking a program record that had stood since the 1996 season. The Windsor, Vt. native eclipsed the former record with a blistering 50.29 recorded time within the event. He was one of the top performers for the Bombers as both the men's and women's swimming & diving programs each earned victories at RPI on Saturday. The women's program lost a close affair to the Engineers as they were bested 151-149 while the men's program was victorious over Rensselaer, 152-142.
The women's program fell to 2-1 at Robinson Pool, while the men are now 3-0. One of the first highlights within the meet was
Matthew Stevens besting all of the competition in the 1000-yard freestyle. He touched the final wall with a time of 10:15.14.
Wadsworth continued his dominance in the 200-yard backstroke winning that event over an opponent from RPI posting a time of 1:57.70. The sophomore  also won the 200-yard IM with a finals time of 1:59.06. The men earned a second-place finish in the 200-yard breaststroke thanks to
Joe Pezzini who finished in 2:19.44.
In the women's 200-yard freestyle
Morgan Hoffman-Smith earned her team points finishing the event second (2:01.90), right behind her was junior Josephine Holeman who finished third in 2:03.33. For the men,
James Collishaw won the event for the Bombers posting a time of 1:45.86.
Hoffman-Smith tasted victory in the 500-yard freestyle as she bested a first-year from RPI when she touched the final wall at 5:23.71.
In the men's 100-yard freestyle first year
Max Braithwaite earned a second-place finish with his recorded time of 48.74.
Jack Wadsworth was nearly five seconds faster than his teammate in Spencer Brownswell in his victory and
Katie Champagne earned a second-place finish within the 100-yard backstroke with a recorded time of 1:03.26.
A highlight within the women's 200-yard butterfly was first-year
Kiersten Gravuer coming in photo-finish with Erin Ingalls of RPI as the winner from the Engineers finished in 2:24.00, while Gravuer posted a time of 2:24.05.
Emily VanderSleen picked up a victory for the Bombers in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 25.17.
In the men's portion of the 50-yard freestyle, IC saw first and second place finishers in
James Collishaw and
Stanley Zaneski, respectively. Collishaw won the event in 21:59, while just behind him was the graduate student in
Stanley Zaneski who finished in 21:84.
Reigning Liberty League honoree
Emily VanderSleen won the 100-yard butterfly with a recorded time of 1:01.19.
In diving action, the women's team was dominant taking first, second and third in the one-meter.
Ava Lowell posted a finals score of 264.30 to win the event. On the three-meter board,
Karalyn Pawcio led all divers with a finals score of 284.55.
Ethan Godfrey earned podium honors on the three-meter board with a score of 290.62. He also won the one-meter event in impressive fashion with a score of 247.50.
The Bombers return to competition on November 6 when it hosts SUNY Cortland at the Kelsey Partridge Bird Natatorium. The meet will begin at 1 p.m.
