SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – Senior
Sebastian Alderete scored the game-winning layup for the Ithaca College men's basketball team with 3.7 left in regulation to give the Bombers an 83-81 road victory at Skidmore College inside the Williamson Center on Saturday afternoon. The Bombers are now 13-5 overall and 8-3 on the season, while Skidmore falls to 6-13 overall and 5-7 in league play.
The Bombers led by 11 points at halftime, 48-37, but the Thoroughbreds quickly erased that deficit less than five minutes into the second half with a 17-6 run to knot the game at 54-54 and then took the lead at 57-56 at the 14:28 mark.
Sophomore
Zach Warech put the Bombers back on top a minute later, 58-57, with a transition layup and IC would maintain the lead for the next 11 minutes of action.
In fact, Ithaca pushed its lead out to eight points at 78-70 with 4:17 to go on a 3-pointer by sophomore
Skylar Sinon, but Skidmore responded with a 9-0 spurt over the next 2:05 to go back ahead, 79-78.
Warech once again came up with a clutch shot at the 1:44 mark with a 3-pointer to give IC a two-point edge, 81-79. With 12 seconds to go, Skidmore knotted things back up at 81-81 on a second-chance opportunity, but Alderete sent the Bombers to victory nine second later.
Alderete finished the game with 11 points on 5-of-13 shooting, to go along with six rebounds and four assists. Sinon picked up right where he left off from a night before, as he dropped 24 points on 10-of-22 from the floor, including 4-of-10 from 3-point range.

Jake Mitchell and junior
Bryan Karl each scored 14 points. Mitchell was 4-for-10 from 3-point range, while Karl hit 5-of-7 attempts, including 4-of-6 from behind the arc.
Junior
Cooper Macklin added nine points, all on 3-pointers, to go along with five rebounds in 24 minutes of play.
In the first half, Skidmore controlled the game early on as the Thoroughbreds built a 10-6 lead over the opening 2:30. Ithaca would tie the contest at 12-12 on a 3-pointer from Karl at the 15:43 mark, but Skidmore would regain the edge at 22-17 four minutes later.
The Bombers would then go on a 24-7 run over the next seven minutes to establish a 12-point cushion at 41-29. During that run, Ithaca hit six 3-pointers, including three from Mitchell.
Macklin ended Ithaca's late first half outburst with a three-ball with 1:12 remaining to make the score 48-34, but Skidmore hit the final shot to account for the halftime tally of 48-37.
The Bombers were 31-for-69 overall (44.9-percent) and 18-for-41 (43.9%) from 3-point range. Skidmore countered with 10 makes from distance and held a plus-12 advantage at the free throw line (15-to-3).
IC committed just five turnovers in the contest and assisted on 18 made baskets.
Ithaca remains on the road next week with three Liberty League contests. The Bombers travel to RIT on Feb. 4, RPI on the 7th and Union on the 8th.
