ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. – The Ithaca College women's soccer team defeated Bard, 2-0, on Saturday afternoon to open up Liberty League play.

The Bombers put up one goal in each half and are now 6-2-1 on the season, with a 1-0 mark in conference play.

Ithaca put together several offensive chances in the opening minutes of the first half.

Just 5:47 in, junior
Kelsey Espenhorst sent a shot in, which was saved by goalkeeper Abigail Stanley. Senior
Gabriella Mihale followed that up with a shot less than one minute later, which was also saved.

Following four IC corner kicks, sophomore
Megan O'Reilly ripped a shot to Stanley, which was stopped and sent the other way.

Sara Jakobsze was tested for the first time at the 11:03, stopping a shot from Kehela Ventura.

The Bombers finally capitalized on their offensive chances at 18:07 as Espenhorst scored her first goal of the season to put IC up 1-0.

Ithaca continued to pressure Bard's defense through the remainder of the half.

Shortly after Espenhorst's goal, a shot from O'Reilly was saved by Stanley in the 22
nd minute.
 Espenhorst then put a shot on-frame in the 37
th, but once again Stanley made the play.
Â
The Bombers registered several shots in the opening minutes of the second half, before putting one on-goal in the 63
rd minute. Stanley came up with the stop on
Jordyn Haynes' ball, however.

Jakobsze made her second save of the day with 7:44 left on the clock, stopping a Gillian Randall attempt.

Elise Leavitt sent a shot in with less than five minutes remaining, which was saved by Stanley.

In the 88
th minute, IC earned a corner kick which led to its second goal of the day with just 2:14 left to play. Junior
Christina DiCesare capitalized on an
Ally Christman pass to give the Bombers the 2-0 edge and eventual win.

Ithaca outshot Bard 24-4 on the day and earned 12 corner kicks to Bard's one.

Jakobsze notched her fourth shutout of the season after making two saves for the Bombers.

Ithaca is back in action on Wednesday when it makes the short trip to Geneva for a 4:30 game against William Smith. The Bombers then wrap up a three-game road stretch with a 3 p.m. match at St. Lawrence next Saturday. IC returns home for a five-game homestand on Saturday, Oct. 12 against Clarkson at 3 p.m.
