Women's Soccer Powers Past St. John Fisher

ITHACA, N.Y. – The Ithaca College women's soccer team used three second-half goals to take down St. John Fisher, 4-0, on Tuesday afternoon. It was the final non-conference matchup for the Bombers before beginning Liberty League play on Saturday afternoon. IC is now 5-2-1 on the season.

Ithaca got on the board for the first time early in the first half as junior Alex Epifani scored her team-leading fifth goal of the season just 12:22 in. Senior Ally Christman notched her first of two assists on the play, as she crossed the ball to Epifani.

The Bombers had an abundance of chances through the rest of the first half, but none found the back of the net. IC forced St. John Fisher goalkeeper Kayla Shutts to make seven of her 11 saves in the first half.

First-year Delaney Rutan put a ball on frame in the 17th minute, which Shutts saved. The goalkeeper went on to make plays on a Mihale shot in the 29th minute, a Jordyn Haynes ball in the 31st minute and another Rutan attempt in the 33rd minute.

Mihale had another solid chance for the Bombers in the 31st minute, as she fired a hard shot to goal, but it hit off the crossbar and bounced over the net.

Shutts finished the half with three more saves on shots from Christman in the 35th minute, Mihale in the 37th minute and first-year Katy Krueger in the 43rd minute.

Ithaca opened the second half with several chances, starting with a Christman shot in the 48th minute, which was saved by Shutts. After several blocked shot attempts, Rutan put a ball on goal in the 56th minute, which was also stopped by Shutts.

The Cardinals put together more offense in the second half, forcing senior goalkeeper Sara Jakobsze to made three saves. The first of the second half was in the 59th minute on a Becky Mack attempt. Jakobsze then stopped an Abigail Dwyer shot in the 71st minute and a Shiane Irwin ball in the 75th minute.

After more than 30 scoreless minutes in the second half, the Bombers scored three quick goals in a span of four minutes to go up 4-0 on the Cardinals.

In the 77th minute, Mihale fired a shot from the top of the box past a diving Shutts to put IC up 2-0. It was Mihale's third goal of her senior campaign.

Sophomore Megan O'Reilly made a near identical play from 30 yards out, less than three minutes later, putting the ball into the top left corner of the net. The goal put the Bombers up 3-0 and was O'Reilly's fourth of the season.

Ithaca added one final goal in the 81st minute, to go up 4-0, as Alexa Kiser put in her first career goal on South Hill off an Ally Christman corner kick.

The Bombers finished the day with 24 shots, 15 on-goal, compared to the Cardinal's 11 total shots and just four on goal.

Shutts ended the day with 11 saves for St. John Fisher in the loss.

Jakobsze made four saves on the day in the net for the Bombers for the fourth shutout of the season, which was a combined shutout with sophomore Jill Geline.

The Bombers are back in action on Saturday with a road game against Bard at 2 p.m. to begin Liberty League action. IC then heads to William Smith on Wednesday, October 2 and St. Lawrence on Saturday, October 5 before returning home for five of the final six regular-season games.
