Women's Soccer Pulls Past Elmira

ELMIRA, N.Y. – Four different players scored as the Ithaca College women's soccer team defeated Elmira, 4-0, on the road on Tuesday afternoon. The Bombers are now 4-2-1 on the season.

Ithaca dominated on the offensive end from the start, putting away its first goal just 11:23 into play. First-year Delaney Rutan sent in a cross where a charging Alex Epifani netted the ball to put IC up, 1-0.

Prior to the goal, the Bombers were knocking on Elmira's door, recording three shots and two corner kicks in the first 6:10. Elmira's goalkeeper Ally Knorr-Anderson made saves on shots from Brady Lynch and Megan Buttinger to keep IC off the board, temporarily.

Although the Bombers strung together plenty of offense through the remainder of the first half.

In the 22nd minute, Knorr-Anderson stopped a Kelsey Espenhorst attempted, and made the play on a Megan O'Reilly ball in the 30th minute. Sophomore Stella Campodonico put the last shot on-goal of the first half for IC in the 33rd minute, which Knorr-Anderson stopped.

The Bombers came out of halftime to put together more offensive runs that eventually led to three more goals in the second half.

After forcing Knorr-Anderson to back three back-to-back saves in the 56th minute, Ithaca finally added its second goa of the game as O'Reilly capitalized on a skirmish in front of the goal to put away a rebound.

Ithaca added another goal in the 74th minute as Rutan scored her third goal of the season after getting around a defender and scoring one-on-one against Knorr-Anderson.

After several more offensive opportunities, it was senior Gabriella Mihale who scored the fourth and final goal for the Bombers. In the 80th minute, Mihale blasted a shot from the far right side into the goal for her second goal of the year.

Ithaca's defense stood strong, limiting the Soaring Eagles' offense to just two shots on the day, neither of which were on goal. Sara Jakobsze picked up her third shutout of the year in the victory.

The Bombers now have a week off between games, as they host St. John Fisher on Carp Wood Field next Tuesday, September 24 at 4:30 p.m.
