SELINSGROVE, Pa. – The Ithaca College baseball program improved to 25-7 on the season after a non-conference doubleheader sweep of Susquehanna University, 7-1 and 18-13, at Bollinger Field on Saturday afternoon. The Bombers' bat exploded in the twin bill for 33 hits, including 10 for extra bases. Susquehanna is now 17-14 overall.

GAME ONE: Ithaca 7, Susquehanna 1

Senior Jake Binder turned in his fourth complete game of the season in the seven-inning contest to run his record to 6-3. Binder allowed one earned run on seven hits with three walks and two strikeouts. Saturday marked the eighth start in which Binder has allowed two or fewer earned runs in an outing.

The Bombers got on the board in the top of the second inning to take a 1-0 lead as senior Garrett Snyder drew a bases loaded walk to bring home fellow senior Cam Fuoti, who led off the frame with a base hit to center. A single by junior Buzz Shirley and walk from sophomore Jack Lynch followed to fill the bases for Snyder.

Ithaca put another run up in the third inning on an RBI single from Fuoti to push senior Adam Gallagher across the plate. Gallagher led things off with a double to the left-center gap and moved up to third on a base hit by senior Sam Little.

IC increased its lead to 4-0 after the top of the sixth inning after a run scored in the fifth and sixth. In the fifth, S. Little stroked a solo home run, and in the sixth, Gallagher doubled in sophomore Garrett Callaghan.

Susquehanna cracked the scoreboard in the bottom half of the sixth, but Ithaca answered with three runs in the seventh to account for the final tally of 7-1.

In the seventh, Shirley led off with a home run to right and then two runs scored on a dropped fly ball with the bases loaded and two outs. Snyder and junior Marco Fontana scored on the error.

Shirley went 3-for-4, while Gallagher, S. Little and Fuoti all notched multi-hit games. Snyder went 1-for-1 with two walks and two stolen bases.

GAME TWO: Ithaca 18, Susquehanna 13

The night cap was a slugfest, as the Bombers jumped out to a 14-0 lead after the second inning, but Susquehanna came back to within four runs at 16-12 but the bottom of the fifth. Ithaca scored twice more in the seventh to make the score 18-12, and then Susquehanna scored the final run of the contest in the bottom of the seventh.

In the top of the second inning, Ithaca erupted for 13 runs on 12 hits. The Bombers recorded 11 hits before an out was recorded. Snyder drove in two runs (Lynch and senior Matt Carey) to bring the rally and then Gallagher plated two more (Snyder and Fontana) on a bases loaded single two batters later. The lead increased to 7-0 on a two-run double off the bat of S. Little to bring in Gallagher and Callaghan, and Fuoti followed with an RBI single to plate S. Little.

After a pitching change, Carey drove in Fuoti to make the score 9-0. Fontana pushed the difference to 11-0 with a two-run single and Snyder followed with an RBI double. The inning concluded with a two-run double from S. Little.

Susquehanna would score five runs in the third and one more in the fourth to trim Ithaca's lead to 14-6. The Bombers got two runs back in the fifth on an RBI base hit by Lynch, which allowed Fuoti to score, and a balk brought home Shirley a few pitches later.

The River Hawks rattled off six more runs in the bottom of the sixth to put the pressure on Ithaca at 16-12.

Snyder and S. Little capped off the 18-run outburst with RBI base hits in the top of the seventh inning.

S. Little went 4-for-6 in Game Two with six RBI, two doubles and a run scored. Snyder was 3-for-5 with four RBI, three runs, two walks and a double.

Gallagher, Shirley and Lynch all had three hits in the night cap, while Fuoti and Carey each had two hits.

Graduate student Tyler Hill earned the start and went four innings in a no decision. Hill allowed eight runs (seven earned) on seven hits with five strikeouts. Senior Christian LaLomia was the first reliever to enter the game and gave up four runs in an inning of work.

Senior Andrew Bailey picked up the win in three innings of relief as he gave up one run on three hits. Senior Matt Eiel fanned two batters in one inning to wrap up the contest.

The Bombers are back in action tomorrow afternoon for a 3 p.m. non-conference tilt against Alfred State at Freeman Field.
