Baseball Runs Winning Streak to Seven with 12-3 Triumph over Alfred State

ITHACA, N.Y. – The Ithaca College baseball team continued its winning ways on Sunday afternoon against Alfred State with a 12-3 victory at Freeman Field. Ithaca, which is now 26-7 and winners of seven straight, recorded 16 hits in the contest with seven going for extra bases. Alfred State drops to 17-18 on the season.

The Bombers quickly took a 4-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning as senior Webb Little cranked a two-run home run to right field with senior Garrett Snyder on base. Later in the inning, senior Cam Fuoti drove in senior Adam Gallagher with a groundout and then junior Buzz Shirley lifted a sacrifice fly to bring home senior Sam Little.

Ithaca extended its lead to 8-0 by the fourth inning. An RBI single from senior Andrew Bailey in the bottom of the third plated Fuoti and then W. Little singled in Snyder early in the fourth. Two batters later, S. Little brought in his brother with a groundout and an error allowed the final run of the inning to score.

Alfred State pulled to within an 8-3 score with a run in the fifth and two more in the sixth, but the Bombers answered with four runs in the bottom of the eighth to put the game away.

Senior Matt Carey started the rally with an RBI single to centerfield, which pushed home Fuoti after he led off the inning with a base hit. After a walk to sophomore Jack Lynch loaded the bases, W. Little cleared the bags with a ringing two-out triple to left-center to make the score 12-3. Shirley, Carey and Lynch scored on the extra base hit.

W. Little finished the game with six RBI on 3-of-5 at the plate and two runs scored. Gallagher also collected three hits, including a pair of doubles, while Snyder, Fuoti and Carey each had two hits apiece. Lynch was 1-for-2 with three walks and a stolen base.

Junior Tom Cosentino picked up his fifth win of the season in seven innings of work. Cosentino allowed three runs on seven hits with five strikeouts. Junior Charlie Hammel fired the final two innings of relief and struck out a pair.

The Bombers are back in action on Tuesday night, April 30 for a 7 p.m. non-conference game against St. Lawrence University at Onondaga Community College.
