PASADENA, Calif. – The Ithaca College baseball team elevated its record to 4-2 on the season with a 14-4 victory over Caltech (3-9) at North Field on Thursday evening. Ithaca posted 14 hits, including seven doubles, and drew 10 walks.
The Bombers jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the top of the first inning. Sophomore
Garrett Callaghan led off with a walk and then stole second before scoring on an error. Senior
Sam Little then drove in senior
Webb Little with a double and senior
Adam Gallagher followed with an RBI single.
In the third inning, Ithaca extended its lead to 5-0 on an RBI double from senior
Garrett Snyder that brought home sophomore
Brendan Ryan and then Gallagher scored on a wild pitch.
Two more runs scored for the Bombers in the fifth inning on a single from Snyder that plated sophomore
Jack Lynch and Callaghan brought home Snyder with a base hit to center.
Caltech got on the board in the bottom of the fifth with two runs on an error to make the score 7-2.
The Bombers got those runs back in the sixth with three more runs on one hit, four walks and a hit by pitch. IC quickly loaded the bases with free passes to Ryan and Gallagher and hit by pitch to Lynch. Junior
Buzz Shirley then drew another walk to bring in Ryan, and then a walk to Callaghan scored Gallagher.
IC continued to hang crooked numbers on the scoreboard in the seventh inning as three more runs crossed the plate. Ryan led things off with a double and then came home on a base hit by Lynch for the first run of the frame. After an RBI double from Snyder, senior
Jackson Smith brought in the final run on a sacrifice fly to plate Lynch.
The Bombers capped off their victory with an RBI double down the right field line by Lynch in the eighth to bring in Ryan.
Snyder, Ryan and W. Little each had three hits in the win. Ryan also scored four runs, while Snyder drove in three. Callaghan walked three times and drove in a pair, while Lynch was 2-for-4 with three runs and two RBI.
Senior
Emmett Dunn picked up his first win of the season in six innings pitched. Dunn allowed two runs (no earned) on six hits with eight strikeouts. Junior
Trevor Rumsey closed out the game for a three-inning save as he struck out three batters.
