REDLANDS, Calif. – The Ithaca College baseball team suffered a 17-2 loss at the University of Redlands on Friday evening to fall to 4-3 on the season. Redlands scored 13 runs over the opening two innings to improve to 8-11-1 on the season.
In the bottom of the first inning, the Bulldogs started things off with a lead-off home run to left field. After an infield RBI single, a three-run shot to the alley extended the Bulldogs' lead to 5-0. An RBI double capped off a six-run first inning.
Redlands posted seven more runs in the second inning to make the score, 13-0. Three straight singles drove in runs for the Bulldogs and then a fielder's choice brought in the fourth run. The Bulldogs belted their third home run of the game, as a three-run shot traveled over the right field fence to post a 13-run advantage.
The difference grew to 14-0 in the third inning on an RBI single, but the Bombers would get two runs back in the fifth and sixth innings on an RBI base hit from senior
Matt Carey and sacrifice fly off the bat of sophomore
Brendan Ryan.
Redlands finalized the blowout win with a two-run triple, followed by an RBI single in the seventh inning.
Senior
Jake Binder took the loss in 1.1 innings. Sophomore
Bill Willett entered in relief and tossed 1.2 innings out of the bullpen. Junior
Buzz Shirley hurled the next four innings before giving way to senior Christian Lalomia.
Sophomore
Alex Robinson went 2-for-3 for the lone multi-hit game for IC.
The Bombers will conclude their California trip tomorrow with a 10 a.m. (PST) game against La Verne.
