ITHACA, N.Y. – The Ithaca College women's soccer team fell to No. 22 RIT on Wednesday afternoon, 2-1, on Carp Wood Field.

With the loss, the Bombers are now 9-6-1 on the season with a 4-4-0 mark in the Liberty League. RIT improves to 11-3-2 overall and 6-1-1 in conference action.

It was the Tigers that got on the board first, posting their first goal 14:19 into play. Senior Abbey Saia curled in a corner kick over the top of goalkeeper
Sara Jakobsze's outstretched hands to put RIT up, 1-0.

It would not take long for the Bombers to even the score, as IC netted its lone goal of the game in the 28
th minute.

Gabriella Mihale made a sliding pass to first-year
Delaney Rutan, who was able to make a nice move around her defender and fire the ball into the low right hand corner of the net.

RIT scored what would ultimately be the game-winner just 10 minutes into the second half. Mia White chipped a pass into the center of the box where Saia was there to fire in her second goal of the game and ninth goal of the season to give the Tigers a one-goal edge.

Statistically, things were nearly even as both IC and RIT each tallied 14 shots in the game.

Following the first goal, RIT kept up the pressure on Ithaca's defense, looking to add another one.

Shots from Saia in the 17
th minute and Maggie Hoey in the 24
th minute were both saved by Jakobsze. Another Hoey shot was blocked by an Ithaca defender in the 26
th minute.

Through the remainder of the first half, Ithaca's defense stayed strong against a tough RIT team.

Jakobsze came up with a save on a Madison Corso shot in the 36
th minute. First-year
Rachel Richards then made a save on the line in the 39
th minute, stopping a Courtney McHale ball.

The Bombers recorded one final chance as the clock ticked down in the first half. An attempt from junior
Kelsey Espenhorst was saved by goalkeeper Alyssa Salls, sending the teams into the break tied at one goal apiece.

RIT came out strong in the second half. After scoring the go-ahead goal, the Tigers kept up the pressure.

In the 57
th minute, a shot from Hoey was blocked by an Ithaca defender. The rebound shot from
Jessica Jones was then saved by Jakobsze and sent the other way.

Jakobsze made another save for IC in the 69
th minute, stopping a Lauren Zeglen ball. The play led to a solid attempt from Rutan, who fired a long ball that was just wide to the left of the net.

Ithaca's best chance of the second half also came from Rutan, with just under five minutes left to play. Rutan got a foot on an
Ally Christman cross right in front of the net, but Salls made a huge save to keep IC from tying things up.

In the net, Jakobsze made six saves on the day while Salls made three to earn the win for the Tigers.

The Bombers close out the regular-season on Saturday afternoon with a trip to RPI for a 3:30 p.m. match. Following the game against the Engineers, IC will find out its fate for the upcoming Liberty League Tournament, which begins on Tuesday, November 5 with a quarterfinal game. The semifinal and final will be played November 9-10 at the No. 1 seed of the tournament.
