Women's Soccer Falls in Season Finale at RPI

TROY, N.Y. – The Ithaca College women's soccer team ended its season on Saturday with a 1-0 loss to RPI on the road.

The Bombers finish with a 9-7-1 overall record with a 4-5 mark in the Liberty League.

After nearly 70 minutes of scoreless play, RPI broke through for a goal. Emily Kaplan had her shot blocked, but got the rebound and fired off again to score her fourth goal of the game and give the Engineers the edge which held to the end.

The Bombers were not without chances, as they registered 11 shots on the day, four of which were on goal.

Just 3:02 in, junior Alex Epifani put the first shot of the game on-goal, which was saved by RPI goalkeeper Joey Lyons.

RPI returned the favor, as Kaplan tested goalkeeper Sara Jakobsze for the first time, but the senior came up with the save. Jakobsze followed that up with saves in the 16th and 20th minutes on Whitney Wisnom attempts.

Jakobsze stayed strong in the net, despite an onslaught of shots from the Engineers. She stopped a Jacqui Richard ball in the 31st minute and came up with the save on another Wisnom shot in the 36th minute. She also made the play on a Wisnom attempted in the 38th minute.

Senior Gabriella Mihale had a chance for the Bombers in the 36th minute, but Lyons saved it and sent in the other way for the Engineers. Mihale had another chance with just six seconds left in the first half, but Lyons kept the Bombers off the board with the save.

The Engineers came out of the halftime break to make an offensive push on IC.

Just 1:38 in, Erin Barnes put a shot on frame, which was saved by Jakobsze. The goalkeeper then made back-to-back saves on two Kaplan shots in the 49th minute to keep RPI off the board.

Ithaca brought the ball down and sophomore Megan O'Reilly registered a shot in the 55th minute, which was blocked by an Engineers' defender. O'Reilly followed that with a shot in the 63rd minute, which was wide.

The Bombers continued to work on the offensive end, looking for the equalizer. An O'Reilly shot in the 80th minute was saved by Lyons before a shot from McKensie Galusha 30 seconds later was blocked by an RPI defender. Ithaca's final attempt in the 88th minute from O'Reilly was blocked.

Jakobsze finished with 11 saves in her final game for the Bombers.
