ALL-TIME RESULTS: Ithaca and St. Lawrence will officially meet up for the 38th time on Saturday in Canton, N.Y. IC owns an overall record of 31-6 against the Saints, which includes 24 straight victories dating back to 1984. The Saints' last win over the Bombers occurred in 1983 with a 24-14 outcome.
Most recently, the Bombers defeated St. Lawrence last season, 28-6, in the muddiest field conditions anyone could ever imagine. By the end of the first quarter, both teams were covered head-to-toe in mud, which made it nearly impossible to read the numbers on any player's jersey. Ithaca scored 26 straight points in the first half and St. Lawrence finally got on the board with 3:15 remaining in the third quarter. IC capped off the scoring with a safety midway through the fourth quarter.
LAST TIME OUT: Last Saturday, Ithaca jumped out to a 38-13 halftime lead over visiting St. John Fisher College and hung on for a 38-35 victory.
IC scored four touchdown in the opening 20 minutes of action as senior
Will Gladney caught three touchdown passes from fellow senior
Joe Germinerio, and sophomore
Michael Anderson scored the fourth touchdown on a tap pass and reverse. Senior
Isaiah D'Haiti found the end zone later in the half on a 32-yard run.
The Bombers concluded the impressive half with a 47-yard field goal from freshman
Nicholas Bahamonde.
Fisher came out firing in the second half and scored 22 points over a nine-minute stretch to pull to within a field goal with 12:22 left in the game. The Cardinals had one final chance to tie or win the game with just over a minute to go, but junior
Khiry Brown recorded an interception to end the contest.
LIBERTY LEAGUE HONORS ANDERSON AND BAHAMONDE: Anderson was selected as the Liberty League Offensive Performer of the Week after he hauled in 12 receptions for 198 yards and a touchdown last Saturday. Bahamonde was also honored for the second straight week as the Liberty League Rookie of the Week on Monday afternoon.
BAHA-BLAST: Late Monday evening, D3football.com selected Bahamonde to its Team of the Week. In the 38-35 win over Fisher, Bahamonde went 5-for-5 in extra points and drilled his career long field goal as time expired in the half, which turned out to be the winning kick. The 47-yarder is the second-longest in program history and is just three yards shy from Max Rottenecker's '16 school record of 50 yards. Bahamonde also recorded three touchbacks.
CONTINUING TO ASCEND: The Bombers moved up to No. 11 in the latest D3football.com Top 25 Poll and No. 12 in the American Football Coaches Association Top 25 Poll. IC vaulted up two sports in each poll after the victory against Fisher.
MILESTONE UPDATE: Gladney is now just six receptions shy from becoming the program's first 200-reception wide receiver. He entered the season with 173 catches and has hauled in 21 passes through three games this year.
D'Haiti found the end zone for the 19th time in his career last Saturday and is one touchdown away from moving into a tie for 10th all-time at Ithaca.
Senior
John Hadac has already racked up 5.0 sacks this season to give him 11.5 for his career. Hadac is just 2.0 sacks from cracking the top 10 in school history.
Junior
Andrew Vito missed last week's game and remains 13 receptions from 150 in his career, which will moved Vito to third in school history.
CORTACA TO SET RECORD: On October 3, the New York City Chapter of the National Football Foundation (NYC/NFF) announced that the 2019 Cortaca Jug Game, set for November 16 at MetLife Stadium, will set the Division III attendance record. With just over six weeks to go, sales have exceeded 39,000 tickets for the game. The previous record of 37,355 was set in 2017 for a game held at Target Field in Minneapolis.
SCOUTING ST. LAWRENCE: The Saints are 2-2 on the year and possess one of the top passing offenses in DIII. SLU is averaging 329.3 yards through the air, which ranks 15th in the country out of 247 teams.
Sophomore Tyler Grochot is the catalyst to the offensive attack, as he has thrown every pass so far for the Saints. Grochot is 111-for-194 this season for 1,137 yards and 10 touchdowns. Three main receivers are the beneficiary of the superb accuracy of Grochot – Joseph Viscardo (26 receptions, 381 yards, six TDs), Andrew Murphy (22 catches, 328 yards, two TDs) and Bryan Dempsey (23 catches, 226 yards, one TD).
Defensively, the Saints have racked up 33 tackles for loss for 126 yards in four games, as well as nine sacks for 57 yards. Ethan Roberts is responsible for 8.5 tackles for loss, while Ricky Hober and Ryan Reinke each have four this season.
