Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Women's Soccer Edged by Vassar, 1-0

ITHACA, N.Y. – The Ithaca College women's soccer team fell to Vassar, 1-0, at home on Saturday afternoon.

The loss drops the Bombers to 9-5-1 on the season with a 4-3-0 mark in conference play, while Vassar improves to 8-6-1 and 5-2-0 in Liberty League action.

The Brewers did not score the game-winner until there was 8:43 left on the clock. Savannah Cutler sent in a cross where Gabi Tulk was there to fire it into the lower left corner of the net to give Vassar the edge.

Ithaca had plenty of solid scoring opportunities, as the Bombers outshot Vassar, 22-8.

The Bombers came out strong in the opening minutes of play and generated several scoring chances right away.

Senior Ally Christman tested goalkeeper Fiona Walsh for the first time in the eighth minute, but the shot was saved. One of Ithaca's best chances was in the 10th minute, as junior Kelsey Espenhorst fired a long shot to goal. Although the shot appeared to be a goal, it was called back on the field, keeping IC off the board.

The Bombers had another solid chance in the 32nd minute as sophomore Megan O'Reilly drilled a shot on goal, which hit off the post. Senior Devon Morris followed that up with a shot in the 37th minute, which was saved by Walsh once again.

Although Vassar recorded four shots in the first half, none were on goal as they were all either wide or high.

The second half started out in similar fashion, as IC generated several chances right off the bat.

A shot from first-year Delaney Rutan was saved by Walsh just 1:25 in. First-year Rachel Richards got the rebound and followed that up with a shot, which was blocked by a Brewers' defender.

Vassar tested senior goalkeeper Sara Jakobsze for the first time in the 58th minute. Jakobsze, however, came up with the save on Emma Tanner's header.

Jakobsze followed that up with another save on a Tulk shot in the 65th minute to keep Vassar off the board.

The Bombers had another promising chance in the 67th minute. Rutan made a play around her defender and crossed the ball into the box, but senior Gabriella's Mihale's shot was wide of the goal.

In the 68th minute, junior Alex Epifani had a breakaway down the field, but the ensuing shot was wide to the right of the goal, once again keeping IC off the board.

Morris put another shot on goal in the 71st minute, which was saved by Walsh.

Following a corner kick in the 75th minute, first-year Katy Krueger had a solid attempt, but Walsh came up with the stop. Walsh then went on to save an Epifani shot in the 78th minute.

After the Vassar goal in the 82nd minute, Ithaca continued to pressure the Brewers' defense, looking for the equalizer.

O'Reilly's shot sailed high before a Rutan attempt hit the post. Epifani had the final attempt of the day for IC, which was high.

Ithaca is back in action for its final regular-season home game on Wednesday afternoon with a 3 p.m. match against RIT. The Bombers then round out the regular-season slate at RPI next Saturday at 3:30 p.m.
