ITHACA, N.Y. – Four different players scored as the Ithaca College women's soccer team defeated Skidmore, 4-0, on senior day at Carp Wood Field.
Â
The Bombers are now 9-4-1 on the year with a 4-2-0 mark in Liberty League play while Skidmore drops to 6-5-2 and 1-5-0 in conference action.
Â
Ithaca came out firing on all cylinders to put together some solid offensive opportunities in the opening minutes.
Â
One of Ithaca's best chances of the day was a shot from
Alex Epifani 9:36 in. The junior fired a long shot which hit the crossbar and bounced away from the goal.
Â
Although goalkeeper Vivian Montgomery-Walsh made three back-to-back saves on IC's shots, the Bombers broke through just 13:38 into the first half.
Â
Junior
Christina DiCesare had a shot stopped right in front of the goal just eight seconds prior to scoring. Epifani corralled the rebound and gave a quick pass to senior Elisa Leavitt, who fired off the shot to put IC up 1-0. It was Leavitt's second goal of the year and Epifani's team-best sixth assist.
Â
After two more offensive opportunities from Epifani and sophomore
Megan O'Reilly in the 27
th and 29
th minutes were stopped by Montgomery-Walsh, the Bombers added another goal.
Â
In the 34
th minute, first-year
Kimberly Campbell sent in a cross from the right side, where junior
Kelsey Espenhorst was waiting near the left post to finish the job and put Ithaca up, 2-0.
Â
The Bombers added one final goal prior to breaking for halftime. In the 42
nd minute, it was senior
Jordyn Haynes who broke through to score. Campbell once again sent in a cross, where Haynes was waiting to chip the ball in past Montgomery-Walsh.
Â
Ithaca opened up the second half with more stellar offensive play.
Â
Senior
Ally Christman tested Montgomery-Walsh for the first time in the half during the 55
th minute. Epifani followed that up with another shot on-goal just one minute later. Both shots were saved by the goalkeeper.
Â
The Bombers put one more shot on-frame prior to breaking through for a fourth game. Epifani's attempted in the 59
th minute was also stopped by Montgomery-Walsh.
Â
In the 63
rd minute of play, O'Reilly had the hot foot as she sent a long shot in, off a pass from Espenhorst. It marked O'Reilly's fifth goal of the year, which ties Epifani for the team lead.
Â
Skidmore applied more pressure to Ithaca's defenders as the clocked ticked down, but the Bombers held strong to keep the Thoroughbred's off the board and preserve the shutout.
Â
Ithaca's goalies –
Sara Jakobsze,
Emma Fruhling and
Riley Boag – combined for the shutout. Jakobsze and Fruhling both finished with one save while Boag had two saves on the day.
