Men's Swimming and Diving Dominates in Season-Opener

RESULTS

ITHACA, N.Y.
– The Ithaca College men's swimming and diving team opened up the 2019-20 slate with three wins over Brockport, Buffalo State and Fredonia. The Bombers defeated Brockport 216.00-84.00, Buffalo State 242.00-53.00 and Fredonia 237.00-57.00.
 
The Bombers opened up the meet with a second-place finish in the 200 medley relay. The team of Liam Maginnis, Anthony Porto, Matt Crysler and Julian Iacono swam to a time of 1:42.64. Brockport's team was the top finisher with a time of 1:41.68. The group of Dylan Haraden, Augie Carlozzi, Michael Sheehan and Nick Bonnebeau also placed within the top five, racing to a time of 1:46.15.
 
Ithaca swept the top three spots in the 1,000 freestyle. First-year Holden Shatouhy won the field with a time of 10:38.24. Pat Daly was close behind in second, swimming to a time of 10:43.56 while Reilly Kleinhen took third in 10:58.97. AJ Bances also placed among the top five, finishing fifth place in 11:06.55.
 
Porto claimed victory in the 200 freestyle, racing to a time of 1:49.87, edging out Brockport's Matt Dambra who took second in 1:50.31. Daniel Meyers raced to a time of 1:51.48 for third place while Bonnabeau took fourth in 1:53.04 and Maginnis finished fifth with a time of 1:54.02.
 
Sophomore Spencer Brownewell was the winner in the 50 backstroke, racing to a time of 25.26. First-year Carter Matteson came in third place with a time of 26.91.
 
The Bombers had three top-six finishes in the 50 breaststroke, led by senior Andrew Mikhailichenko who took first in 27.77. Sophomore Timothy Hector finished third with a time of 29.09 while Porto came in sixth after swimming to a time of 30.51.
 
Crysler, a sophomore, was the top IC finisher in the 100 butterfly, taking second place in 54.53. Sheehan came in fourth place with a time of 55.94 while Iacono took fifth in 56.49.
 
Defending Liberty League champion Stanley Zaneski won the 50 freestyle with a time of 21.41.
 
Senior Nate Bartalo won the 100 freestyle after racing to a time of 47.47, edging out Zaneski, who took second in 48.42. Maginnis was the fourth-place finisher for IC, racing to a time of 51.57. Christian Stangeby rounded out the top six with a time of 51.78.
 
Brownewell repeated his success in the 100 backstroke, winning the event in 54.37. Haraden claimed second place with a time of 57.73 while Matteson came in fourth in 58.16.
 
Mikhailichenko won his second event of the day in the 100 breaststroke, racing to a time of 1:00.69 to claim victory. Porto took second with a time of 1:03.00 while Hector finished fifth in 1:04.34.
 
The Bombers took the top three spots in the 500 freestyle, led by Haraden's first-place finish with a time of 5:02.87. Max Bridges took second place with a time of 5:08.59 while Sheehan finished fourth in 5:13.75. Daly rounded out the top six with a time of 5:18.01.
 
Bartalo continued the trend of IC wins, taking first in the 50 butterfly with a time of 23.75. Crysler finished fourth in 24.91 while Meyers took fifth with a time of 24.99.
 
Hector was the top Bombers' finished in the 100 IM, taking second place with a time of 56.90. Mikhailichenko took third place with a time of 57.12.
 
Ithaca wrapped up the swimming portion of the day with a top-three sweep in the 200 freestyle relay.
 
The team of Bances, Brownewell, Crysler and Sheehan took first with a time of 1:32.04. Meyers, Haraden, Daly and Bartalo claimed second-place with a time of 1:32.12 while Shatouhy, Maginnis, Bridges and Zaneski finished third in 1:33.06.
 
In diving action, the Bombers claimed the top two spots in the 3-meter dive.
 
Junior Justin Moczynski finished first with a total score of 263.35. First-year Ethan Godfrey opened up his career on South Hill with a second-place finish with 251.10 points. Benjamin Pesco took fourth for IC with a score of 206.60 while Theo Summerville started his collegiate career off with a seventh-place finish with 177.85 points.
 
In the 1-meter dive, it was Godfrey who came out on top with a first-place score of 287.40. Moczynski finished fourth with 231.35 points while Pesco took finish with a score of 216.30. Summerville rounded out IC's divers in seventh, finishing with 195.75 points.
 
The Bombers are back in action next Saturday, October 26 with a meet at Liberty League rival RPI at 2 p.m. IC returns home to face Cortland on Saturday, November 2.
