Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Early Clarkson Goal Dooms Men's Soccer as Ithaca Falls, 1-0

POTSDAM, N.Y. – The Ithaca College men's soccer team dropped just its second contest of the year with a 1-0 loss to Clarkson on Saturday afternoon.

The Bombers are now 10-2-1 overall with a 3-1 mark in conference play.

"This was a typical Liberty League battle between two good teams who didn't give an inch, said Head Coach Kyle Dezotell. "We'll learn from the loss and be better for it as we move forward and prepare for next weekend."

Clarkson netted the loan goal of the game just 2:12 into competition. The Golden Knights earned a corner kick as IC knocked the ball out of bounds at the goal line. Junior Matt Adamou sent in the kick, which hit the far post and went in.

The Bombers pushed to score the equalizer, generating three shots on goal in the first half. The first chance came eight minutes in, as a Thomas Pierce shot was saved by goalkeeper Ian Roeloffs.

Ithaca had another shot on frame in the 29th minute, but the attempt by senior Max Barish was stopped by Roeloffs.

Senior goalkeeper Max Lichtenstein made his first save of the game with just under 15 minutes remaining on the clock, stopped a Kyle Jackson shot.

With less than eight minutes left in the first half, the Bombers put their final shot on frame, as Theo Scott sent a ball in. It was saved by Roeloffs, however, to send Clarkson into the half with a 1-0 edge.

The Bombers picked it up in the second half, looking to score the game-tying goal.

In the 55th minute, IC was fouled deep in Clarkson's end, resulting in a free kick right outside the box.  Dillmann's ball went over the Golden Knights' defensive wall, but Roeloffs was able to knock the ball over the top of the goal to keep Ithaca off the board.

Just over 10 minutes later, the Bombers had another scoring chance. IC earned another free kick which was also taken by Dillmann. He sent the ball low and outside, but Roeloffs was there once again to make the save.

After nearly another 10 minutes, Ithaca struck again, but Ali Kapasi's attempt was foiled by Roeloffs.

Lichtenstein made his second save of the game in the 80th minute, stopping a Devon Bahr shot.

"The Liberty League is so strong top to bottom and after today's results there are no teams left unblemished. Everything is still very much in our hands," said Dezotell.

Ithaca returns to action next Friday with another road game at Union at 4 p.m. The Bombers then head to Skidmore next Saturday for a 2 p.m. contest.
