Women's Basketball Tops Union, 59-49

ITHACA, N.Y. – The Ithaca College women's basketball team extended its winning streak to seven games on Saturday as it topped Union, 59-49, in Liberty League action.
 
The victory bumps IC to 15-3 overall with a 10-1 mark in the Liberty League while Union falls to 11-5 and 6-4.
 
Two Bombers reached double-digits, as junior Cassidy O'Malley scored 12 points to go along with seven rebounds, four assists and three blocks, and KellyAnne O'Reilly netted 11 points on the day.
 
Things remained close through much of the game, starting immediately at tip off.
 
At 8:08, senior Meghan Pickell hit a 3-pointer on a pass from O'Malley to give the Bombers a 5-2 edge, before Union's Nicole Conley put in a bucket for the Dutchwomen to bring it within one point.
 
Following Conley's point with 7:42 left, neither team scored for more than three minutes, until a free throw from Abbi Field ended the scoring drought. The Bombers ended the quarter on a 6-0 run to take a 14-6 advantage.
 
Field started the run with a layup before O'Reilly and Megan Yawman hit back-to-back buckets for the Bombers.
 
Ithaca built up multiple 10-point leads in the second quarter before Union started to make a run. Sara Jackson opened up the quarter with a jumper and after a Union basket, Yawman extended IC's edge to 10 points again with a layup.
 
After another layup pushed the lead back up to 10 with 7:08 left, Union scored six straight points, cutting the Ithaca lead to just four points. Elly Vaughan netted a layup and hit the ensuing free throw after being fouled before Conley hit a shot from behind the arc to cut IC's lead to 20-16.
 
With 4:23 left, Grace Cannon netted a layup, before neither team scored until the final five seconds, when Conley put in another bucket for the Dutchwomen, cutting IC's lead to 22-18 at the half.
 
The third quarter proved to be a battle, as Union tied things up and took its first lead since the first quarter. With 7:54 remaining the in the quarter, Pickell hit a layup before the Dutchwomen went on a 6-0 run to cut it down to just one point.
 
Sophie Borg started the run with a layup a 6:52, followed by an Anna Metcalf bucket and a jumper from Amber Raisner.
 
Union finally tied things up 4:15 to play in the third when Vaughan converted a three-point play, evening the score at 30. After tying it again at 32 on a Raisner layup, the Dutchwomen took a lead with 1:21 left on a Conley jumper.
 
The Bombers closed out the quarter with five straight points on an O'Reilly 3-pointer and a jumper from Field with 26 seconds left.
 
Ithaca started things off in the final quarter with the first four points, on a layup from Yawman and two Jackson free throws.
 
IC created some distance with 5:37 left to play as O'Reilly drained back-to-back 3-pointers, pushing the Bombers ahead 49-37. Union was able to cut it back to down to seven points with just 2:22 remaining, but would not come any closer the rest of the game.
 
Conley led all scorers, scoring 19 points while grabbing nine rebounds and recording four blocks for Union. Raisner and Vaughan also scored in double-figures, each finishing with 10 points.
 
The Bombers are back in action next Friday when they host Skidmore at 5 p.m. IC will then welcome RPI on Saturday at 2 p.m., which will also be senior day.
