HACKETTSTOWN, N.J. – The Ithaca College women's soccer team rounded out its first weekend of competition with a win over Westfield State in the Cyclone Kickoff Classic at Centenary.
The Bombers defeated the Owls, 1-0, to remain at a perfect 2-0 on the season. Ithaca last opened the season with two straight wins in 2016, when they won four in a row.
For the second day in a row, senior
Shoshana Bedrosian put it away for Ithaca, scoring the lone goal of the game.
In the 20
th minute of play, Bedrosian found the back of the net after beating her Westfield State defender on a pass from
Alex Epifani. The goal marks the fourth of the season for Bedrosian, as she netted three goals for IC yesterday.
The Bombers started things off in solid fashion, registering three shots and a corner kick in the first five minutes.
Just 1:32 in, junior
Gabriella Mihale's shot was blocked in IC's first shot of the game.
Alex Epifani then tested Westfield goalkeeper Natalia Falcone for the first time in the game, and Falcone came up with the save.
Falcone registered her second save of the game in the fifth minute on a
Jenny Lidwin shot.
Ithaca registered two more corner kicks, in the 12
th and 16
th minutes, before Bedrosian finally put the Bombers on the board.
Westfield State had its best chance of the half during an offensive push, starting in the 33
rd minute.
The Owls' Ashley Levya drilled back-to-back shots but both were blocked by Ithaca. Junior goalkeeper
Sara Jakobsze then came up with a save in the 34
th minute on a Jenn Rennich shot.
In the first half, the Bombers register seven shots to Westfield State's four. The Bombers also had three more corner kicks than the Owls.
Epifani opened up the second half of play with a quick shot against goalkeeper Brianna Hawley, who came up with the save.
In the 54
th minute of play, Epifani once again tested Hawley, who made another save.
The Bombers recorded back-to-back shots in the 62
nd and 63
rd minutes. First-year
Stella Campodonico's attempt sailed high before Bedrosian's was wide.
In the final 25 minutes of play, there were just three combined shots taken.
Westfield State's Bella Eduardo sent a shot wide in the 68
th minute, followed by a Bedrosian wide shot the following minute.
Eduardo took the final shot of the game for the Owls in the 79
th minute, but Jakobsze made her third save of the game on the ball.
Epifani finished the game with four shots, all on goal. Bedrosian took three shots, one of which was on frame and resulted in a goal.
In the net, Jakobsze recorded her second win of the year in as many games, making three saves en route to her first shut out of the season.
Ithaca returns to action on Wednesday afternoon with a 4 p.m. home contest against Wilkes.
