Softball Falls to Rowan, Tops Eastern Connecticut in Florida

KISSIMMEE, Fla. – The Ithaca College softball team split the afternoon on Tuesday, on its third day of competition at the Sunkissed Games.
 
In its first game of the day, the Bombers fell to Rowan University, 6-1, before topping Eastern Connecticut, 6-1
 
Game 1 vs. Rowan
 
Although the first inning remained scoreless, Rowan wasted no time in getting on the board in the second inning, scoring five of its six runs.
 
Kristina Mueller drove in Jesse DeDomenico for the first run of the game before Rebecca Lombardo and Sonia Sharma scored on a Carly Anderson double. Morgan Smith reached base on an error which brought in Anderson and Mueller to make it 5-0.
 
The Bombers put up their only run of the game in the top of the third inning.
 
Rebecca DiSerio single to the right side before Gabby Laccona reached on a fielder's choice. DiSerio came home on an Allie Colleran hit to cut Rowan's lead, 5-1.
 
The Profs added their last run of the game in the bottom of the fifth inning when Nicole Paiotti sent a shot over the fence in left center, giving Rowan a 6-1 lead.
 
Game 2 vs. Eastern Connecticut
 
In game two of the day, Eastern Connecticut scored first, in the top of the first inning.
 
Alexis Tyrrell started things off by drawing a walk before Sara Pisanelli singled to second. Tyrrell scored on a Jackie Lewis sacrifice fly to centerfield.
 
The Bombers wasted no time getting on the board when they got to the plate in the bottom of the first inning.
 
Laccona led off with a triple to left field before Nikkey Skuraton drove her in on the next play to tie things up.
 
Skuraton moved forward on a Colleran ground out before scoring on an Alex Wright double to center.
 
Hannah Peters followed up Wright's double with a double to center of her own, bringing in Wright to give IC a 3-1 lead.
 
In the bottom of the second, Annie Cooney started things off for the Bombers with a single to left field before Laccona produced again with a double to center. Cooney scored on a Skuraton grounder to second.
 
Ithaca put up its final runs of the game in the bottom of the fourth, starting with another Laccona double to center. Skuraton bunted to the pitcher and beat out the throw, advancing Laccona to third.
 
Laccona was brought in by Colleran before Skuraton scored on a Wright double to left center.
 
Laccona went 3-for-4 against the Warriors which included a triple and two doubles. She also scored two runs on the day.
 
Wright went 2-for-3 with two doubles while Skuraton went 2-for-4 and scored two runs.
 
Beth Fleming won her first collegiate game on the mound, allowing just two hits and one run while striking out seven.
 
The Bombers are back in action on Thursday with a game against No. 12 Ramapo College at 9 a.m. and St. Norbert College at 1:30 p.m.
