Pirnie Nets Two to Lift No. 22 Women's Soccer Past Bard

ITHACA, N.Y. – Senior Sarah Pirnie netted two goals on senior day to lift the No. 22 Ithaca College women's soccer team over Bard, 2-0.

With the win, the Bombers improve to 9-1-2 on the season with a 3-1-0 Liberty League mark while Bard falls to 4-6-1 and 0-4-0 in conference.

After honoring seniors Pirnie, Reid Garner, Sam Roinson, Shoshana Bedrosian, Megan Amaral and Stacey DiGiorgio prior to the game, the Bombers wasted no time in getting down to business.

At the 16:01 mark, junior goalkeeper Sara Jakobsze made a beautiful, jumping save on a Bard free kick to keep the Raptors off the board.

Ithaca used that to build momentum which led to its first goal just 19:09 in.

Junior Elise Leavitt intercepted a Bard throw in from the corner and played a give-and-go with Gabriella Mihale before passing it to Pirnie in front of the net, who was there to chip it in.

The goal marks Pirnie's second of the season and Leavitt's first assist as a Bomber.

Pirnie had the hot foot once again in the 74th minute of play. First-year Megan O'Reilly took a long ball and dribbled up the right side of the field before crossing it to Pirnie, who was charging to the goal.

Although the Bombers controlled much of the play, the Raptors did register several promising chances in the first half. In addition to Jakobsze's jumping save earlier in the game, she was also tested in the 22nd minute on a shot from Dylan McDonald, but once again she made the play.

In the first half, the Bombers had a solid chance to score off a perfectly-placed Garner free kick in the 32nd minute, but goalkeeper Abigail Stanley was there to make the save.

Following a corner kick, a shot from sophomore Alex Epifani was blocked by Bard defenders in the final 10 seconds, ending the period without any more goals.

It was Bard with the first solid chance of the second half, on a Hattie Wilder Karlstrom shot-on-goal, but Jakobsze stayed solid, stopping the attempt.

Junior Ally Christman had a promising chance for IC in the 62nd minute on a breakaway, but the shot sailed just wide of the goal.

Pirnie followed that up with a shot on frame, forcing Stanley to make the save.

IC continued to generate offense following its second goal.

Shots from Mihale and Epifani both went wide and a Maddie Amidon shot was blocked by Bard defenders before O'Reilly put one on goal. O'Reilly's shot in the 89th minute was saved by Stanley and would be the last shot recorded on the day.

The Bombers outshot Bard 14-4 and registered four more corner kicks.

In the net, Jakobsze finished the day with three saves for her sixth shutout of the year and a 9-0-2 record. She has allowed just three goals on the year and has a .897 save percentage.

Ithaca is back in action next weekend with back-to-back games. On Friday, the Bombers travel to Skidmore for a 4 p.m. contest before heading to Union for a 2 p.m. match on Saturday afternoon.
