Women's Soccer Blanks Skidmore Behind O'Reilly Goal

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – The Ithaca College women's soccer team defeated Skidmore, 1-0, on Friday afternoon in a Liberty League road game.

Win the victory, the Bombers pick up their tenth win of the season and are now 10-1-2 with a 4-1 mark in the Liberty League. Skidmore sits at 6-4 on the season with a 3-2 conference record.

The lone goal of the game was scored by first-year Megan O'Reilly with just 55 seconds left in the first half. The goal marks the first of her collegiate career at Ithaca.

Following a corner kick from junior McKensie Galusha, there was a scramble of the goal and O'Reilly put it away to give IC a 1-0 advantage.

Although Skidmore outshot the Bombers, 16-12, Ithaca held strong to keep the Thoroughbreds off the board.

The first half consisted of a lot of back-and-forth action, with both teams putting other offensive pushes.

In the sixth minute, Skidmore's defense cleared the ball on an Ithaca corner kick and sent it the other way, leading to three shots from the Thoroughbreds. Yasmine Boukari's shot in the sixth minute sailed while, before Courtney Shaw's attempted in the eighth minute was high and Emma Basso's shot in the ninth minute was blocked.

Senior Reid Garner put the first shot of the game, for either team, on-frame in the 13th minute, but goalkeeper Ava Keller made the stop.

Skidmore together four chances from the 16th minute to the 32nd, including back-to-back on-frame tests for goalkeeper Sara Jakobsze.

Jakobsze, who finished with her seventh shutout of the season, stopped shots from Boukari in the 17th minute and Basson in the 21st.

With just over 10 minutes left in the first half, following a corner, senior Sam Robinson sent in a shot from the left wing, but it was stopped by Keller in goal.

Following the Bombers' goal in the final minute of the first half, sophomore Alex Epifani pushed to add another score to that, putting a shot on goal, from the top of the box, with just 18 seconds left, but it was saved by Keller to end the half.

Skidmore wasted no time in trying to pull even following halftime, as Carly Craft sent in a shot from the right wing, forcing Jakobsze to make the stop.

Jakobsze then made back-to-back stops on two Boukaris hots in the 56th and 57th minutes to send things the other way.

The Bombers were able to follow Jakobsze saves up with an offensive push. Epifani's shot in the 57th minute sailed wide before Sarah Pirnie's attempt the next minute hit the post.

Skidmore continued to pressure the Bombers' defense and Jakobsze in goal as the half progressed.

Jakobsze stayed solid in net, stopping shots form Quincy Lucin in the 61st minute and Emily Mendes in the 63rd minute. Following a quick IC possession, Jakobsze was once again tested by Lucin in the 69th minute and Boukari in the 71st minute, but stopped both shots. She made one final save in the 76th minute, on a Sydney Gellerman attempt, to send things back the other way.

Ithaca registered the final shot of the game with just under three minutes left to play, but Robinson's shot was stopped by Keller in goal.

Jakobsze came up big for the Bombers in the win, making 10 total saves, including eight in the second half.

Ithaca is back in action tomorrow for a 2 p.m. contest at Union College in Schenectady, N.Y.
