RESULTS
FREDONIA, N.Y. – The Ithaca College men's swimming and diving team opened up the season on Saturday afternoon at SUNY Fredonia against the Blue Devils, Brockport and Buffalo State.
The Bombers won all-but-one individual race, with
Andrew Mikhailichenko,
Stanley Zaneski and
Spencer Brownewell all winning two races apiece.
The day opened with the 200 medley relay, where IC finished in second place. The team of
Bradley Keith,
Matthew Quinney,
Jake Hewitt and
Kellen Scanlan finished behind Brockport with a time of 1:42.29.
Ithaca also took fourth as the team of
Liam Maginnis,
Augie Carlozzi,
Jack Gerken and
Nick Bonnabeau raced to a time of 1:43.62.
The Bombers swept the top four spots in the first individual race of the day, the 1,000 freestyle.
Pat Daly headlined, coming in first with a time of 10:46.76.
Dylan Haraden followed that with a second-place finish in 10:55.54 while
Michael Sheehan was just .02 behind in third with a time of 10:55.56. Reilly Kleinhen rounded out the top four with a time of 11:12.06.
Senior
Jake Hewitt won the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:51.98, while Dan Meyers finished in second, racing to a time of 1:53.55.
Brownewell claimed the first individual race of his collegiate career in the 50 backstroke, winning in 25.14. Fellow first-year Timothy Hector came in second with a time of 26.01 while Keith raced to third place in 26.49 and Scanlan came in fourth with a time of 28.10.
Mikhailichenko, a junior, won his first race of the day in the 50 breaststroke, racing to a time of 28.00 to beat out second-place Thomas Knack, of Fredonia, by .9 seconds.
Ithaca got a dominating performance from junior
Nate Bartalo in the 100 butterfly, who finished in 51.97, more than three seconds ahead of second place.
Matt Crysler finished in fourth with a time of 56.83 while Bonnabeau rounded out the top five with a time of 58.52.
Zaneski, a sophomore, and Scanlan, a senior, finished tied for first place in the 50 freestyle, as they both finished in 22.06.
Zach Meunier also finished in the top five, coming in fifth in 23.07.
Zaneski then followed that up with a win in the 100 freestyle, swimming to a time of 49.84. Meyers also cracked the top five, coming in third place with a time of 50.48.
In the 100 backstroke, Brownewell claimed his second race of the day, winning in 54.37. Keith was not far behind, finishing in second place with a time of 56.76.
Mikhailichenko then won his second race of the afternoon, the 100 breaststroke, with a time of 1:01.45. Quinney also ended up in the top five with a time of 1:04.31.
The Bombers claimed the top two spots in the 500 freestyle, as Sheehan won the first individual race of his collegiate career, after racing to a time of 5:12.69. Haraden, also a first-year, came in second place with a time of 5:16.12. Kleinhen claimed a top-five spot, finishing fourth with a time of 5:24.12.
The lone individual race of the day that Bombers did not win was the 50 butterfly, but IC took second and third behind Cody Wittmeyer of Buffalo State. Bartalo was the top finisher for the Bombers, taking second in 24.20, which was just .03 behind first place. Brownewell took third in 24.46 while Hewitt came in fifth with a time of 25.04.
Hector, a first-year, won the final individual race of the day, the 100 IM in 57.60. The Bombers swept the top three spots, as Mikhailichenko came in second with a time of 58.67 and Quinney finished third in 58.74.
The Bombers' team of Zaneski, Scanlan, Meyers and Bartalo closed out the day with a win in the 200 freestyle relay, winning with a time of 1:30.00, beating out second-place Fredonia by .65.
In diving action, sophomore
Justin Moczynski was the top IC finisher in the three meter, coming in second place with a score of 263.55. IC had just one other diver in the three meter,
Benjamin Pesco, who finished seventh with a score of 147.80.
Moczynski was also the top IC finisher in the one meter dive, coming in fifth with a score of 213.15. Pesco finished ninth with a score of 149.00 while Meyers came in tenth with 102.40 points.
The Bombers are back in action next Saturday, October 27, as they host RPI in the A&E Aquatics Pavilion at 2 p.m.
