ITHACA, N.Y. – The Ithaca College women's basketball team topped Union, 84-44, in its first game of 2018 on Friday evening.

The Bombers took the lead right from the tip, scoring the first six points of the game, which included four from junior Allie Tunick.

Union put up its first points just over five minutes into the game before the Bombers drained back-to-back three pointers from Meghan Pickell and Annie Giannone.

The Bombers outscored Union 6-2 to close out the quarter with an 18-4 lead.

Ithaca proved to be just as dominant in the second quarter, building up as much as a 21-point lead.

Senior Allison Spaschak started things off in the quarter with a three before Union's Nicole Conley netted a shot from behind the arc at the 9:23 mark to cut IC's lead to 14 points, the smallest of the quarter.

Meghan Mazzella scored the next five points for the Bombers, first off a steal and a fast-break layup. She followed that up with another layup, was fouled and made the ensuing free throw to put the Bombers up 26-7 with just over seven minutes to play in the quarter.

Throughout the final seven minutes of the first half, the two teams had nearly even scoring, with the Bombers scoring just two more points.

Tunick scored the final points of the second quarter, draining a three-pointer with just 18 seconds left, giving the Bombers a 21-point lead, 35-14, their biggest of the half.

Coming out of the break, Union scored the first point on a Jenni Barra free throw before Tunick hit another three on a pass from Cassidy O'Malley.

The Dutchwomen hit the next three points on an Elly Vaughan layup and a Lindsay Corina free throw.

Barri added two more points for Union before O'Malley scored six straight points for the Bombers on an and-one play and a three pointer.

A three-pointer from Sara Jackson at the 4:09 mark gave the Bombers its first 30+ point lead of the game. Tunick hit two free throw and Giannone scored a bucket to push the Bombers' advantage to 59-24 with just over three minutes left to play in the third quarter.

The teams exchanged baskets over the last three minutes, but the Bombers maintained their 35 point lead heading into the fourth quarter.

First-years Megan Yawman and Mariyah Byrd combined for three free throws to open up the final quarter and fellow first-year Abbi Field followed that up with a jumper to give IC a 68-30 lead with just under nine minutes left.

Union's Kolby McKenzie and Corina hit back-to-back shots from the behind the arc, less than 40 seconds apart to cut into the Bombers' lead.

First-year Grace Cannon then netted seven points in a row in a two-minute stretch, including two jumpers, a free throw and a layup.

Ithaca eventually closed things out with a win, to keep its Liberty League record perfect. The Bombers are now 8-2 on the season and 3-0 in conference play.
