ITHACA, N.Y. – The Ithaca College women's basketball team lost to Skidmore, 59-46, on Saturday afternoon in Ben Light Gymnasium.

The Thoroughbreds took an immediate lead, scoring the first 10 points of the game, powered by five points from Kelly Donnelly.

Junior
Sara Jackson finally put the Bombers on the board with 1:07 left in the first quarter. Senior
Julie Yacovoni followed that up with a three-pointer to cut Skidmore's lead in half.

Taylor Ong netted another shot for the Thoroughbreds before
Grace Cannon ended the quarter with a jumper to leave the Bombers trailing 12-7.
The second quarter proved to be similar to the first with Skidmore building up a double-digit lead in the first three minutes.

The Bombers could not gain much momentum and ended up going into the break with a 14-point deficit.

Ithaca came out in the second half with more momentum than in the first, scoring eight straight points to close the gap to just eight midway through the quarter.

Yacovoni hit a layup at 8:19 which moved things in the right direction for IC.
Cassidy O'Malley then stole the ball and scored on a fast break before Yacovoni added two more buckets to bring the deficit down to single digits.

The two teams exchanged baskets for the next few minutes before Cannon netted two free throws with 2:37 left in the quarter to bring the Bombers within six points.

Ithaca opened up the fourth quarter with three straight points on two
Meghan Mazzella free throws and an
Annie Giannone fast break to make it a two-possession game.

Skidmore's Veronica Moceri drained a three with 6:21 left and a Donnelly jumper at the three-minute mark brought the lead back up to nine points.

The deficit was still in the single digits with 21 seconds left, but four straight free throws from the Thoroughbreds closed things out.

Yacovoni recorded her fourth double-double of the season with 13 points and 11 rebounds. She also added three steals on the day.

O'Malley scored six points, had five rebounds, four steals and one block for the Bombers.

Donnelly led the Thoroughbreds with 22 points and 13 rebounds.

With the loss, the Bombers fall to 11-5 overall with a 6-3 mark in the Liberty League. Skidmore improves to 8-8 overall and also have a 6-3 conference record. There is now a five-way tie in the Liberty League for second place.

Ithaca is back in action next weekend when they travel to William Smith on Friday for a 6 p.m. tip and Union on Saturday for a 2 p.m. start.
