Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Women's Soccer Falls to Clarkson in Conference Opener

ITHACA, N.Y. – The Ithaca College women's soccer team was topped by Clarkson University on Saturday afternoon in its first-ever Liberty League game.

Despite starting strong and getting on the board first, the Bombers ultimately fell 2-1 to the Golden Knights.

Ithaca falls to 2-5 on the season and 0-1 in the Liberty League while Clarkson improves to 4-2-2 and 1-0 in conference play.

The Bombers started out strong, garnering three corner kicks in the first 12 minute of play, as well as two shots. An Alex Epifani shot was saved by Clarkson's Elyse Green and a header in the 13th minute from Sam Robinson went wide.

In the 15th minute of the game, junior Shoshana Bedrosian scored her team-best fifth goal of the season. Bedrosian took a pass from Epifani and sent a shot soaring over Green in the net.

The Golden Knights were not far behind, tying things up in the 36th minute on a Camryn Careccia goal on a pass from Madison Kather.

The teams went into the half tied, 1-1, but it was Clarkson who struck first in the second half which would prove to be the difference in the game.

In the 53rd minute of play, Kather scored, unassisted, to put the Golden Knights up 2-1 over the Bombers.

Ithaca had some solid chances in the latter portion of the second half, earning three corners in the span of less than two minutes. The three corners resulted in two promising shots but one was saved by Green and the other was blocked by a Clarkson defender. The final corner of the run was quickly sent the other way by the Golden Knights' defense.

The Bombers also had another solid opportunity on a breakaway run, but Sam Robinson's shot in the 83rd minute went wide of the goal resulting in a goal kick the other way.

Ithaca outshot Clarkson 14-7 and earned 11 corner kicks compared to the Golden Knights' four.

Ithaca goalie Stacey DiGiorgio made three saves on the day while Green tallied six shots in the net for Clarkson.

The Bombers are back in action on Wednesday when they host non-conference opponent St. John Fisher at 4 p.m.. The two teams are no strangers, as they are former Empire 8 opponents. The game marks the fourth and final game of a four-game homestand for the Bombers and the final remaining non-conference game on the schedule.

Following the game against St. John Fisher, the Bombers will hit the road for a three-game stretch against conference foes St. Lawrence, William Smith and Bard.
