Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Late Goal Pushes Cortland Past Women's Soccer

ITHACA, N.Y. – A SUNY Cortland goal with less than four minutes left in the game proved to be the difference on Wednesday for the Ithaca College women's soccer team.

With the 1-0 loss, the Bombers fall to 1-4 on the season while Cortland improves to 3-0-2.

The game was hard-fought between the two rivals but the game-winner was eventually scored by Amanda Profera at the 86:30 mark. Profera made a move around Ithaca defenders and found the top right corner to put the Red Dragons on top.

Both teams had opportunities to score prior to Cortland's goal, but none were successful in finding the back of the net.

The Bombers had two notable chances in the second half. In the 41st minute, there was a scuffle in front of the goal and Cortland's goalie, Danika Svendsen made a save but bobbled the ball. Senior Shannon McMillan got a foot on the ball but her shot was unsuccessful as it was blocked by a Red Dragon defender.

In the 63rd minute, a header from junior Sam Robinson just missed going in the goal and hit the post.

Ithaca had another promising chance with 5:35 left to play. Junior Shoshana Bedrosian sent a through ball to Jordyn Haynes for a fast break but Svendsen quickly made her way out of the goal to cover the ball and stop the Bomber's momentum.

The Bombers registered 11 shots throughout the game – five in the first half and six in the second – while Cortland tallied eight total shots.

In the first half, a Kristyn Alonzo shot in the ninth minute sailed wide while Svendsen made a save on a Robinson shot in the 15th minute.

Another Robinson shot in the 25 minute and a Bedrosian shot in the 28th minute both went high before an Ally Christman shot in the 37th minute went wide.

The Bombers opened up the second half with a tough offensive performance which led to three corners in a row. From there, Ithaca registered two shots in a row followed by another corner.

A shot from Haynes in the 60th minute was saved by Svendsen before Robinson's shot hit the post in the 63rd minute.

The final shot of the game for the Bombers was in the 84th minute, but Bedrosian's attempt wa blocked by a Cortland defender.

Ithaca goalkeeper Stacey DiGiorgio tallied six saves on the day while Svendsen recorded four.

The Bombers are back in action on Saturday when they host Wells College at 12 p.m. at Carp Wood Field.
