NEW PALTZ, N.Y. – The Ithaca College baseball team extended its winning streak to nine straight with a 6-0 non-conference shutout victory at New Paltz on Saturday at Loren Campbell Field. With the win, Ithaca is now 19-8 on the season, while New Paltz drops to 15-14.
Sophomore
Andrew Bailey put Ithaca on the board early on with a one-out solo home run in the top of the first inning, and after the second out was recorded, fellow sophomore
Sam Little went deep to give the Bombers a 2-0 lead.
Junior
Jack Morello started on the mound for Ithaca and tossed two-plus innings before being relieved by sophomore
Robby Buffis, who went six innings to pick up his fifth win of the year. Buffis scattered four hits and struck out two batters in 70 pitches. Sophomore
Jake Binder fired the final inning of relief and allowed one hit.
The Hawks put together their best scoring opportunity in the sixth innings, as they placed two runners in scoring position with one out, but the next two batters grounded out to end the threat.
Ithaca increased its lead to 5-0 in the seventh inning on a three-run homer by senior
Josh Savacool. Junior
Domenic Boresta got things started with a one-out single and then sophomore
Matt Carey followed with a base hit to set up Savacool's homer.
The Bombers added their sixth run in the eighth inning as senior
Ryan Henchey scored from second base on a failed pick-off attempt.
Bailey, S. Little and sophomore
Adam Gallagher each had two hits in the game. Bailey also walked twice and stole a base, while Gallagher doubled.
The Bombers return home tomorrow for another non-conference contest against the University of Rochester at 2 p.m.
