Baseball Ends Spring Trip With Extra Innings Win at Occidental, 6-3

LOS ANGELES – The Ithaca College baseball team took down host Occidental College in 11 innings on Saturday afternoon, 6-3, at Anderson Baseball Field in Los Angeles. Ithaca concludes its spring trip with five win in seven contests to push the Bombers' record to 6-4 on the season. Occidental is now 13-6 on the year.

Ithaca was unable to generate any offense through six innings of play and headed to the seventh with a 2-0 deficit. In the top half of the seventh, the Bombers plated three runs on an RBI single by senior Trevor Thompson and a two-run triple by classmate Ryan Henchey .

Senior Ryan Dougherty crossed home on the Thompson single, while sophomore Sam Little and Thompson rounded the bases on Henchey's three-bagger.

An error in the bottom of the ninth allowed Occidental to tie the game and send things to extras.

Ithaca took the lead in the 11th on a double steal by senior Josh Savacool, who was on third, and sophomore Matt Carey. Shortly after, S. Little drove in Thompson and Savacool with a base hit to right field to clinch the victory.

Thompson, S. Little, and sophomores Andrew Bailey and Adam Gallagher each notched two hits to account for eight of the 12 for Ithaca on the day.

Junior Jack Morello tossed eight innings and gave up just two runs on eight hits in a no-decision. Morello also struck out six hitters. Bailey picked up the win in three innings of relief as he gave up one run on two hits with four strikeouts.

The Bombers are scheduled to play No. 2 Cortland next Tuesday, March 21 at Freeman Field.
