Women’s Basketball Runs Win Streak to 10 Straight at Utica, 79-63

UTICA, N.Y. – The Ithaca College women's basketball team moved its winning streak to 10 straight games on Tuesday evening with a 79-63 Empire 8 Conference victory at Utica College inside the Clark Athletic Center. Ithaca is now 21-3 overall and 13-2 in the Empire 8 with one regular season contest remaining on its schedule. The current winning streak is the longest for an Ithaca program since the 2013-14 season.

Senior Ali Ricchiuti and juniors Jordan Beers and Julie Yacovoni combined for 47 of the Bombers' 79 points on 20-of-30 shooting from the field. Ricchiuti scored 16 points and went 6-for-8 overall (2-for-3 from 3-point range) to go along with four rebounds and three assists. Beers also tallied 16 points as she made 8-of-14 attempts with four boards. Yacovoni went 6-of-8 for 15 points with five assists, two blocks and two rebounds.

The Bombers never trailed in the contest and led by as many as 24 points with 2:36 left in regulation. More than half of Ithaca's points (42) came within the paint, while the bench contributed 25 points.

It was a two-possession game for a majority of the first quarter until sophomore Meghan Mazzella scored on a layup with 1:43 left to put Ithaca up by seven at 18-11. Utica would convert a pair of free throws to get back to within five, but sophomore Sara Jackson put the Bombers back up by seven on the final basket of the period, 20-13.

Ithaca quickly established a double-digit advantage, 25-15, in the second quarter on a bucket from Beers just 1:12 in. The Bombers held onto its cushion for the remainder of the period and went into halftime with an 18-point lead at 42-24.

A basket from senior Erin Ferguson on the Bombers' opening possession of the second half gave Ithaca a 44-24 advantage, and Utica could only pull to within a 16-point different for the remainder of the evening.

Freshman Cassidy O'Malley went 4-for-6 in the game for eight points, to go along with six rebounds, while Jackson netted seven points. Freshman Mia Herlan added four points, while sophomore Annie Giannone dished out five assists.

Sophomore Allie Tunick assisted on three baskets, and junior Erin Woop contributed three points, two rebounds, two assists and two steals. Ferguson added four points, three rebounds and three assists in 14 minutes played.

Ithaca went 35-for-66 from the floor (53.0-percent) and assisted on 25 baskets.

The Bombers wrap up their regular season at 6 p.m. on Thursday evening at home against Houghton College. Ithaca will then compete in the Empire 8 Tournament for the 14th consecutive season on February 24-25 at a site still to be determined.
