POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. – The Ithaca College women's basketball team topped Vassar in its first-ever Liberty League game on Friday evening.

Three different players scored in double figures as the Bombers defeated the Brewers 69-53 to improve to 5-1 on the season.

Grace Cannon netted 16 points, a career high, while senior
Julie Yacovoni and sophomore
Cassidy O'Malley each scored 14 points.

O'Malley scored the first six points for IC, giving the Bombers a 6-2 advantage at the 7:12 mark.

Vassar's Samarah Cook netted a three to cut the Bombers' lead to 6-5 nearly half way through the quarter and it would remain that way for more than two minutes.

Meghan Pickell gave Ithaca some momentum back, scoring on an
Allison Spaschak pass and converting the ensuing free throw after being fouled.

Vassar scored the last six points of the quarter, cutting the Bombers' lead to 13-10.

The Brewers' Nicole Teta opened things up just 48 seconds into the second quarter by hitting a three-pointer and tying the score up at 13.

Ithaca fell behind briefly, 18-17, before going on a 17-2 run to end the quarter a take a 34-20 lead heading into half time.

Cannon netted a jumper at 5:08 to take the Bombers' lead back and hit a three-pointer less than two minutes later to give IC a six-point edge. She also gave the Bombers' a double-digit lead with another score at the 2:23 mark.

O'Malley added a jumper before Cannon ended the half with two free throws to push IC up by 14 points.

Ithaca continued to build its lead, leading by as many as 25 points in the third quarter. The Bombers scored 11 straight points, starting with a Pickell three-pointer at 7:49.

O'Malley followed that up with back-to-back layups. Yacovoni and
Allie Tunick both netted shots to push the Bombers' advantage to 49-24 with 5:29 left in the third quarter.

Vassar cut the lead slightly, but IC still ended the third quarter with a 20-pointer, 56-36 edge.

Yacovoni scored six of her 16 points in the fourth quarter to help keep the Bombers' lead in double digits.

Vassar scored the last seven points of the game, but the closest the Brewers would come would be 16 points, giving Ithaca the win.

The Bombers shot 29-56, good for a 51.8 percent clip. They also went 87.5 percent from the line against the Brewers. Additionally, the Bombers pulled down 11 more rebounds than Vassar (37-26).

Vassar was led by Teta, who scored 11 points and Isa Peczuh, who had 10. Julie Roellke had chipped in seven points and six rebounds.

IC is back in action tomorrow afternoon as the team takes on Bard at 2 p.m. in Liberty League action. Following that, the Bombers will have two more games to round out its 2017 portion of the schedule.
