Women's Soccer Falls to RIT at Home

ITHACA, N.Y. – The Ithaca College women's soccer team fell to RIT, 1-0, on Wednesday afternoon at Carp Wood Field.
 
The two teams were scoreless until the Tigers scored the game-winning goal with 5:10 left in regulation.
 
RIT's Emily Thiel played a ball into the box off a corner where Monique Polanco was there to finish things off and give the Tigers the lead.
 
Despite the Bombers' offensive push in the last five minutes, they were not able to get off any shots and score the equalizer.
 
Ithaca is now 6-9 overall with a 3-5 mark in the Liberty League while RIT improves to 11-3-2 and 4-2-2 in the conference.
 
The first half was largely played in the midfield with only three shots being recorded the whole time.
 
RIT registered all three first-half shots, the first one coming in the 28th minute. Goalie Stacey DiGiorgio made the save on Marla Roberts' shot to keep the score at zero.
 
In the 31st minute, a Courtney Hunt shot sailed high before another Roberts' shot went wide in the 34th minute.
 
The Bombers' came out in the second half and made an offensive push, registering their first two shots of the game in the first three and a half minutes of play.
 
A Shoshana Bedrosian shot was blocked by a Tigers' defender in the 58th minute before a Reid Garner shot went wide of the goal in the 59th minute.
 
DiGiorgio came up with two more saves – in the 72nd minute on a Polanco shot and in the 77th minute on a Jenna Valleriano shot. DiGiorgio finished with three saves on the day.
 
Statistically, RIT outshot the Bombers 6-2 and earned three corners while Ithaca did not have any.
 
The Bombers have one final regular-season game of the season on Saturday when they host Vassar at 2 p.m. Ithaca will also honor its seniors prior to the game.
